Toss: Kaipaki won the toss and decided to bowl Team: Carl Schwarz ©, Ross Laidlaw, Jerem Wylie, Chris Hurren, Elliot Webb, Dean Busch, Hugo Bothma, Corey Hyde, Kieran Milburn, Greg Patterson, Thomas Benn, Fraser Kilgour Result: Kaipaki won by 2 wickets Match Statistics: Te Awamutu 264 all out in 49 overs Kaipaki Bowling: Ross Laidlaw 4 – 43 off 9 Kaipaki 265 for 8 in 48 overs Kaipaki Batting: Greg Patterson 40, Kieran Milburn 42, Thomas Benn 56 Match Summary Kaipaki have seen off a spirited Te Awamutu cricket performance. Kaipaki won the toss and decided to bat in tricky bowling conditions. ‘The Nation’s Capital’ was very chilly indeed for this fixture and it led to some lacklustre fielding and bowling performances. Kaipaki’s bowling attack lacked discipline and often bowled too short and too wide. Kaipaki were poor in the field, dropping 5 catches. It is something that has plagued this team for most of the season as overcoming complacency seems to be Kaipaki’s greatest challenge at the moment. Zac Gibson, who is making a habit of scoring runs against Kaipaki again showed his class scoring 91 runs. Rob Kaine was another player who batted well for Te Awamutu, scoring 84. Kaipaki’s run chase faltered consistently throughout their innings with no one really going on and getting a big score. Thomas Benn was Kaipaki’s best scoring 56. Kaipaki often lost wickets at crucial times which kept Te Awamutu in the game. Te Awamutu were in the fight right to the end. However, Kaipaki have massive batting depth and Dean Busch and Ross Laidlaw saw the team through in the end to secure another victory. Kaipaki now finish the round robin with 2 very tough games against St Paul’s this coming week and competition front runners Hinuera. Kaipaki will need to be at their best if they are to get through to the Mike Cotter Cup Final. Key Points · Thomas Benn scored his first 50 for Kaipaki · Ross Laidlaw continues to get wickets and is Kaipaki’s leading wicket taker this season Regards, Kent Currie Kaipaki Cricket Enthusiast Kaipaki v West Ham
07/11/15 Raymond Park # 1 On The Line – The Seddon Cup After a lot of scrambling around we eventually tracked down the Seddon Cup. It was in Michael Clayton’s garage. Michael Clayton was in Piopio. After breaking in to Michael Claytons garage, the Seddon Cup finally arrived at Raymond Park – only to be handed over to WestHam at the end of the day…. It is said that catches win matches – we dropped a lot of catches…. It should also be said that not bowling leg-side long hops will also win matches – our bowling wasn’t flash… It could also be said that batting diligently will also win matches….apart from a couple of guys – we did not bat diligently…. But – we were the best fed team on the field ! Playing at Raymond Park comes with the advantage that Taz will erect his large Marquee (and no – this is not a metaphor for anything else – it really is a large marquee) – and his Wife – Ash – will provide an amazing spread at the Innings break…we had Macaroni Cheese, Nachos with Sour Cream, BBQ Chicken Wings – not to mention the 400 bags of sponsored Jellybeans from Challenge…. So after losing the Toss and Fielding first we did well to limit WestHam to 237 after their allotted 35 overs. Glenn Collins (The GC) took a couple of good catches – showing everyone else how it was done… Nick Binnie bowled 7 overs on the trot for a good return of 2/34. Eric Stevens bowled a huffing and puffing 4 overs finishing with 2/21 Howie “The Peculiar Purple Pieman Of Porcupine Peak” Baker, not so much - with figures of 0/103 from his 3 overs….or something close to that… After our degustation smorgasbord - the Opening pair of Mark Donovan and Musti Kapadia set about their work and had a good stand of 44 before Musti was bowled for 17 - looking to increase the run rate. Howie Baker showed touches of averageness amongst long periods of poor batting, before he too succumbed trying to clear the ropes…caught for 16. Mark Donovan showed glimpses of the class, which made him a dominant figure in the Northland Under 15 side of the mid-80’s. He played some glorious Cover Drives and Hook shots. He was out LBW for a well compiled 38. He later blamed the rash shot that he played on the “Food Coma” he was struggling through… By then, the pressure of trying to chase the run rate became too much for the rest of the Kaipaki outfit – with only Nick “Rubbish” Binnie showing some resistance – remaining 25no – and watching the demise of 6 Kaipaki Batsmen from the non-strikers end… Kaipaki All Out -136 Not our finest performance – but some little nuggets of cricketing gold that will give us confidence heading into our next match… Highlights of the Day: · The Lunch Spread · Eric Stevens 54 Nicknames · Mark Donovan saying “Come On Kaipaki” (quickly followed by” Sh*t – I never thought I would be uttering those words….” Promoted to open the batting normal tail end batsman Elliot Webb has produced one of the greatest moments in Kaipaki Cricket History. Game: Kaipaki vs Tokoroa (50 over one day game) Venue: Kaipaki Oval, Kaipaki (Artificial) Date: Saturday 08/11/14 Weather: Hot and sunny, 21 degrees. Toss: Kaipaki won the toss and decided to bat Team: Carl Schwarz ©, Ross Laidlaw, Kent Currie, Chris Hurren, Elliot Webb, Dean Busch, Hugo Bothma, Corey Hyde, Kieran Milburn, Greg Patterson, Thomas Benn, Result: Kaipaki win by 215 runs Match Statistics: Kaipaki 392 all out in 47 overs Tokoroa Bowling: Mike Seymour 4 – 56 off 10 Tokoroa 177 all out in 33 overs Kaipaki Bowling: Dean Busch 3 – 10 off 5, Ross Laidlaw 3 – 28 off 6 Match Summary Elliot Webb after spending most of his cricketing career as a number 11 batsman and when Kaipaki field 12 players he normally isn’t in the batting line up, has produced an amazing display of power hitting to hit 127 runs off 86 deliveries. He has left his team mates and Kaipaki fans in disbelief, to the point where Kaipaki Godfather John Parker, who wasn’t present at the ground, thought the team was playing a practical joke on him. Webb played some of the most amazing shots in his innings which included 9 sixes and 10 fours. People could easily say that Kaipaki Oval has small boundaries, but not anymore – the size of Kaipaki Oval has increased in the off season and most of Webb’s sixes cleared the boundary with ease. One 6 over extra cover will stay in the memory of his team mates for years to come. The Tokoroa opening bowler steamed in only to see Webb hit a lofted cover drive over the embankment for 6. Although it was ‘Webb’s Show’ his team mates also ran Tokoroa ragged. Corey Hyde hit 75, Kieran Milburn 54 and there were other handy contributions from Thomas Benn and Kent Currie, who was making his first appearance of the season. Kaipaki ended with a mammoth 392. Tokoroa were never in this game and lost wickets consistently through their innings. They were all out for 177 with Dean Busch and Ross Laidlaw the chief destroyers. Kaipaki will still be disappointed with some aspects of their game however – at times the batsmen gave their wickets away too easily and the fielding was not as sharp as it should be from the defending champions. Kaipaki now head into the business end of the season with the first of their big battles of the season against arch rivals Cambridge on the town square next Saturday. If Kaipaki are to keep their unbeaten run alive they will need to be on top of their game as Cambridge will provide a very stern challenge indeed. The 08 November 2014 will belong in Kaipaki History as Elliot Webb’s Day – a player who has given so much to Kaipaki Nation since it’s rebuild 3 years ago, his performance couldn’t happen to a more deserving character, Key Points · Elliot Webb’s hundred of 127 came off 86 deliveries · Corey Hyde’s 75 came off 65 deliveries · The opening partnership was worth 163 · Kaipaki hit 18 sixes · Tokoroa used 8 bowlers · Tokoroa lost 2 batsman by injury – one through a knee injury and one because of a bruised thumb Regards, Kent Currie Kaipaki Cricket Enthusiast A good first up 40 over outing for Colts, with the potential for a win.
Game: Kaipaki Colts vs Waikare (40 over one day game) Venue: Kaipaki Oval, Kaipaki (Artificial) Date: Saturday 31/10/14 Weather: Hot and sunny, 21 degrees. Team: Aidan Mora-Teddy ©, Sam Foster, Nick Alquist, Reed Claydon, Connor Hodgson, Alistair Sutherland, Fraser Annan, Cameron Annan, Wayne Annan, Brae Ebb, Jacob Goodwin Result: Waikare win by 69 runs Match Statistics: Waikere 215/8 in 40 overs Kaipaki Bowling: Sam Foster 3/25 off 7, Cameron Annan 2/32 off 5 Kaipaki 146 all out in 27.3 overs Kaipaki Batting: Jacob Goodwin 32 n.o., Aidan Mora – Teddy 25, Sam Foster 20 Match Summary Waikere won the toss and decided to bat first. Kaipaki fielded well but were let down by extras. Young off spinner Brae Ebb made a good debut with economical figures of 0/13 of 5 overs. A good piece of fielding by Jacob Goodwin, after the batsman was deceived by the slightly uphill Kaipaki boundary resulted in a run out. Kaipaki made it hard for themselves, losing their first wicket in the second over (golden duck), but the skipper (Aidan Mora-Teddy) Along with opener Sam Foster put on a 52 partnership to stable the ship. Kaipaki looked on track for victory until the ending of this partnership. There was a middle order collapse to bowling that was so slow we had played the shot twice before the ball even got there. A solid 32 n.o. from number 11 Jacob Goodwin was the high score for the day. Despite the loss the team felt that a win was possible and we were above the run rate with wickets in hand after the 10th over, so we are expecting that results will improve throughout the rest of the season. Key Points: - Jacob Goodwin’s 32 came off 16 balls - Two wickets were taken on the last two balls of Waikere’s innings - Connor Hodgson (14) and Brae Ebb made their debuts for Kaipaki, both impressed, Connor in the field and showed promise with the bat (17), and Brae with the ball Sam Foster Kaipaki Colts Ambassador Date: 01/11/14
Team: Kaipaki GOLD Weather: Fine Player Condition: Numerous changes from the first match of the season Ground: Raymond Park Kaipaki recover from horrendous 2nd over to just fall short in a game, which went down to the wire vs. Marist at Tazmond Park. Marist won the toss and decided to bowl first, and it was a solid Kaipaki start 8-0 after the 1st. What happened in the 2nd over is best left untold with 2 wickets on the first two balls of the over left Bellis to face the hat-trick ball in his first bat of the season. Hold on…. it actually is worth noting what happened….. Nick Binnie’s golden duck was followed up by another golden duck to Sunny Prabhu. Bellis managed to grab a single preventing the hat-trick, before, on the very next ball Fenwick was snapped up by a sharp catch at first slip to leave Kaipaki 9-3 after 2 overs. Bellis departed soon after before a momentous partnership between Johnny Ahlers and Wayne “Big Red Dog” Clifford looked to have swung the momentum back Kaipaki’s way. Johnny fell just short of his 100 (92) in a partnership of 149 after a very impressive innings. Taz managed to get 5 beers down thinking he would be better not making the pitch after his bat had already been used twice for 2 ducks, but he did have to eventually trot to the crease managing 1 boundary before the last 3 batters decided to give some Marist some fielding practice skying catches all over the field while adding very few runs. Red Dog ending on 74 Not Out in Kaipaki’s 213/8. Kaipaki’s fearsome bowling attack was to be spearheaded by young Jack Collins and Howie Baker, whom I hear was in fine form vs. Greatbatchs mob. Unfortunately Howie couldn’t match up to this form although he did manage to snare the first wicket. Collins mixed up his spell and was unlucky not to snare a wicket, beating the bat on a number of occasions. Reg Hall was then into the attack and snapped up the 2nd wicket with Sunny holding onto the catch, the next batter was out to impress some bloody long haired bloke (or his so called chick) and while he couldn’t touch Howie, he torched Reg for few big hits, before Reg got the better of him and knocked over his middle stump. Some outstanding keeping by Ahlers looked to have brought Kaipaki into a strong position, but the umpires were too busy texting to be able to see 2 sharp stumping chances, Firstly off Howie and then Reg. Howie finishing with 1-33 off 6 while Reg bowled out 2-29 off his 7. Sam Blake was then into the attack and looked very sharp in his 5 overs with some great variation and took out Marist’s (“I love myself”) captain to leave the game in the balance. But some power hitting by left handed Willard delivered the knockout punch as numerous bowlers attempted to get the Marist Pr*ck out. Red Dog did state if the wickets had just been a little higher he would have got him. In the end it was in the penultimate over that Willard would smoke his 9th 6 as Marist got the big W. Scoreboard A good all round bowling and fielding performance the best for some time. Kaipaki bowl Otorohanga out for 115.
Game: Kaipaki vs Otorohanga (50 over one day game) Venue: Leighton Parsons Oval, Otorohanga (Artificial) Date: Saturday 31/10/14 Weather: Hot and sunny, 21 degrees. Team: Carl Schwarz ©, Ross Laidlaw, Jerem Wylie, Chris Hurren, Elliot Webb, Brad Leonard, Hugo Bothma, Fraser Kilgour, Kieran Milburn, Greg Patterson, Thomas Benn, Ben Strang Result: Kaipaki win by 8 wickets Match Statistics: Otorohanga 115 all out in 43.5 overs Kaipaki Bowling: Chris Hurren 3 for 16 off 7, Ben Strang 2 for 14 off 5, Ross Laidlaw 2 for 21 off 6.5 Kaipaki 116 for 2 in 11 overs Kaipaki Batting: Ross Laidlaw 64, Fraser Kilgour 23 Match Summary Otorohanga won the toss and decided to bat first. Kaipaki after a rusty fielding and bowling performance last week made some massive improvements in this area of the game. Otorohanga found it hard to penetrate the field. Although they got bowled out for 115 they still batted out for 43 overs. Young off spinner Chris Hurren had a good return with impressive figures of 3 for 16 off 7 overs. Opening bowlers Ross Laidlaw and Greg Patterson bowled well in tandem while leg spinner Ben Strang caused the batters some concern also. Kaipaki made short work of their run chase finishing the game in the 11th over. Ross Laidlaw was promoted to open the batting and made a swashbuckling 64. Kaipaki would have gained a lot of confidence with this performance and now look forward to hosting Tokoroa at home next Saturday. Key Points · Ross Laidlaw’s innings of 64 came off 21 deliveries Regards, Kent Currie Kaipaki Cricket Enthusiast |
