Kaipaki are playing their big game of the season over the weekend. Kaipaki following on from their one day success earlier in the summer have been in vintage form during the Champions Trophy round robin. They have completely outplayed other club sides and remain unbeaten over the last 2 seasons against them - but they are very weary of a very competitive St Paul’s team. St Paul’s (school team) are the only team to beat Kaipaki during the Champions Trophy this season and they have the seam attack to upset the Baggy Green and Golds.
The final will be played on a green top at Cambridge Town Square and with rain forecasted over the weekend believe the toss will be critical. St Paul’s will back their seam bowlers to knock the top order of Kaipaki over but Kaipaki will also boast an extremely experienced and powerful bowling line up. Ross Laidlaw will again spearhead the Kaipaki attack and will be well supported by Adam and Brenden Flegg, Greg Patterson and also Craig Bulloch. Complementing the seamers will be off spin bowler Kieran Milburn, who has two 5 wicket hauls under his belt recently, and leg spinner Ben Strang who will provided crucial variation.
Kaipaki will again bat deep into their batting order. Corey Hyde who is the leading run scorer in Waikato Valley cricket this summer will again open the batting. Former ND player Brad Leonard will provide stability in the middle order with captain Carl Schwarz.
Although Kaipaki will put out a powerful team they won’t quite be at full strength as Jerem Wylie is out with an injured hand and Fraser Kilgour will also not play after having most of the Champions Trophy off with tendinitis in his feet.
Cambridge Town Square has been a happy hunting ground in the last two seasons winning their last 4 games at the ground.
If you would like to support the Baggy Green and Golds over the weekend please feel free to head down to the ground and support the Kaipaki Nation!
