- The length of any pitch shall not exceed 20.12 metres (22 yards).
- Hours of play shall be Saturdays 9.00am to 12.30pm.
- Leather balls to be used on grass pitches or artificial grass. Composition balls must be used on all other pitches. Balls are to be the approved standard endorsed by HCA (142 gram - 2 piece), Kookaburra.
- Boundaries to be agreed upon before the game starts and preferably marked.
- Protective gear is required. Batsmen must wear batting pads, batting gloves and boxes (boys). It is mandatory for all players to wear shoes. All wicket keepers standing up to the wickets must wear an approved full-faced helmet. HCA recommends the use of helmets while batting.
- The period between innings shall not be more than five minutes.
- Any team, which arrives late, will forfeit one over from their batting innings for every three minutes late, from 9am.
- An over shall consist of six balls. An over may be extended up to eight balls if wides and/or No Balls are bowled.
- In all games, each innings shall consist of 28 overs and players should be encouraged to move quickly between overs.
- No fielder is allowed to stand within tem metres from the batsman except off side slip fielders.
- The leg side wide guideline will be a ball that passes down the leg side, half way between the wicket and the edge of the pitch.
- Wides and No Balls shall apply and scored as extras to the team total. A penalty of one run for a No Ball shall be awarded, in all cases to be scored as an extra. This penalty shall stand in addition to any other runs scored. An extra ball is to be bowled (maximum 8 balls per over). Additional runs may be scored off a No Ball, they are credited to the batter (if he has hit the ball). Batsmen may run on a wide. The wide is scored as an extra and any runs taken off the wide are scored as additions to batting team. If ball signalled a wide crosses the boundary, it will be scored as a 5.
- Double Bounce: If a ball bounces more than twice between the batting creases it is declared a No Ball. It will be scored as one run under extras.
- Short Pitched Delivery: If the ball delivered by a bowler, excluding a spinner, passes, or would have passed over the shoulder of the batsman standing in their normal batting stance at the crease, the square leg umpire shall call and signal No ball.
- Full Pitched Delivery: If a full pitched ball, irrespective of pace, passes, or would have passed on the full above waist height of a batsman standing in their normal stance at the crease, the square leg umpire shall call and signal No Ball.
- No bowler may bowl more than five overs in an innings. Every player must complete three overs (excluding the wicket keeper) before a bowler can bowl their fourth over.
- Dead ball will be signalled if, in the opinion of the umpire, the ball has deviated off the edge of an artificial pitch edge or similar cause. No run or wide shall be credited.
- If a ball delivered by the bowler deviates off the edge of the pitch or matting or any other obstruction (eg. Burnt hole in the matting, a stone on the pitch) that makes it an unfair delivery, then the umpire will call "dead ball" and no runs shall be scored.
- A ball returned from a fielder back to the wickets (either end) that hits the edge of the concrete and is deemed to be unfair because it deviates in an awkward or dangerous angle the umpire shall call "dead ball" and any runs scored after that call will not count, runs prior to the call will count.
- A batter must retire on reaching 30 runs. When a retiring batsman returns it must be after all the other batsman have been dismissed or retired upon reaching 30. The returning batsman will return in the order they were retired.
- No LBW's shall apply.
- Venues may not be changed without the consent of HCA.
- Complaints must be sent in writing within 72 hours of the conclusion of the game to HCA.
- Any defaults must be reported to HCA and the opposing team as soon as possible.
- The result to be agreed upon at the end of the game by the team managers.
- All Hardball grades are encouraged to submit their results/scores to Hamilton Cricket each week to: [email protected]
- We suggest in the interest of fair play, below first and second 11 intermediate, coaches should rotate players weekly so that all players get an opportunity to bat up the order.
- While we stipulate the age group (year group) for each grade, it is important to note that you can move up a grade if you believe your team is strong enough to move up or you can receive dispensation if you need a player from a different year to make up your team.
- No alcohol is to be consumed on school grounds.
- Scorebooks are to be scrupulously maintained with full names written and crosschecked by both teams. Scorers should receive training in this to ensure accuracy.
- Rain Rule: Play will not commence in rain, and if players should leave the field after the start of play because of rain, play will not recommence until the rain has stopped or both captains agree to play on. There should not be any pressure placed on captains to continue playing in rain. Player welfare must come first.
