Kaipaki Go Through Champions Trophy Unbeaten
In a fitting finale to end the season, against 2nd placed St Paul’s, Kaipaki pull victory out of the jaws of defeat. McCone stars with the ball taking 5 wickets and Wylie scores belligerent century.
Game: Kaipaki vs St Paul’s (100 over game)
Venue: St Paul’s, St Paul’s Collegiate (Grass)
Date: Saturday 22/03/14
Weather: Hot and Sunny
Team: Charlie Parker, Kent Currie, Carl Schwarz, Ross Laidlaw, Jerem Wylie, Chris Hurren, Elliot Webb, Brad Leonard, Hugo Bothma, Fraser Kilgour, Shaun McCone
Result: Kaipaki win by 13 runs
Match Statistics:
Kaipaki 267 all out in 50.3 overs
Jerem Wylie 109, Fraser Kilgour 64
St Paul’s 254 all out in 48 overs
Kaipaki Bowling: Shaun McCone 5 for 14
Key Points
· Kaipaki agreed to bat first to allow St Paul’s preparation chasing down a score as they head into Gillette Cup this coming week.
· Kaipaki took this opportunity to bat players up the order who have lacked batting time out in the middle this summer.
· St Paul’s took 2 early wickets and had Kaipaki on the back foot immediately. A good partnership by Fraser Kilgour and Carl Schwarz steadied the ship.
· Kaipaki found themselves 60 for 5 and in all sorts of trouble when Jerem Wylie came to the crease.
· Wylie having his first bat for the Kaipaki Green bit of the Kaipaki Team (has played mostly for the Gold bit of the team in the Hamilton Senior C Competition) showed his class and hit a magnificent 109. One particular 6 he hit went into the swimming pool at St Paul’s!
· Wylie and Kilgour put together a partnership that took Kaipaki to 203. As it turned out it was a match winning partnership. Captain Fraser Kilgour batted maturely and patiently for his 64.
· Kaipaki ended their innings being bowled out for 267 off 51 overs.
· St Paul’s put together a fantastic reply and should of won this game.
· The St Paul’s openers put on 160 for the first wicket with both of them scoring 75 runs each.
· Kaipaki looked down and out when St Paul’s got to 180 for 1 and only needing 88 runs off 100 balls for victory.
· With the pitch completely flat and no life in it for the seam bowlers Fraser Kilgour rolled the dice one last time and threw the ball to Shaun McCone. McCone who usually bowls left arm medium pace was asked to bowl spin. He claimed a wicket with his first ball.
· St Paul’ panicked and their innings capitulated as McCone turn the ball square. McCone ended up with 5 for 14 and he also got a run out off his own bowling effectively getting 6 wickets.
· St Paul’s got the target down and needed 15 off 12 balls with 3 wickets in hand. Kaipaki at this stage were happy just to get the winning draw but as they have done so many times this season Kaipaki dug deep one last time and showed why they deserve their 3 titles this summer.
· Mark Bailey and Garth Littlejohn batted at 10 and 11 so anything was possible in the final stages of this match. Charlie Parker took a wicket with his last ball in NZ having Mark Bailey caught on the boundary trying to hit out.
· This season will go down as one of the greatest ever seasons for Kaipaki Cricket matching the feats of the team of the 80’s. They now look forward to bringing the majority of their team back next season and having a crack at Hamilton Old Boys in November as they attempt to qualify for the National Club Champs.
· A media release will go out shortly with a summary of the season.
· Kaipaki prizegiving is on the 5th of April at Kaipaki and I invite all players, supporters and Old Boys to attend.

Howie "Maketu" Baker Runs Through Eastlink.
Date: 02/03/15
Team: Kaipaki GOLD
Weather: Fine
Player Condition: Poor with several players backing up from the Big Red Dogs wedding the previous day / night.
I unfortunately missed the toss, however assume someone assisted Skip M. Clayton to toss a coin, someone won and we were in the field.
With several seasoned veterans unavailable for this must win fixture there was some early tension, and we turned to Tim Fenwick and Deane Bellis to open the attack.
Eastlink were riding their luck early on with some decent bowling being hit about in the air without going to hand.
Dan Fenwick dropped a sky ball early off his brother Tims bowling, and Eastlink had rattled on 50 for 0 after 7.
Tim quickly realised the wedding guests (and his brother) had no chance of holding a catch, so knocked over the off pole of one of the openers and we were in to them.
After Bellis had sweated out 5 Stella Artois, he was given a rest, and went to hide at point.
Jerem Wylie took up the attack and bowled with pace and accuracy, Eastlink unable to score, with Jerem bowling 4 maidens on the trot, allowing Howie "Maketu" Baker to attack at the other end.
Jeram moved Graeme Currie into short cover and the duo prospered immediately as Doc picked up a defensive prod millimetres from the ground. A great grab that lifted the whole team, (excluding those who were at Red Dogs Wedding)
Howie had a stumping, then a half tracker was hit to point, where Bellis (who was trying to hide) managed a rare catch with no hands.
Howie apologised to the batsman, however it was now apparent the bad ball was a weapon, and Howie proceeded to pick up a couple more soft dismissals, and had to bowl flat outside off stump for the last two overs to avoid a "5-for" shout.
Musti Kapaidia took up the attack with immediate success, a wicket with his 1st ball and finished with his best season return of 3/18.
Glenn Collins bowled tidily without luck , answering the call as the wedding guests looked to limit their bowling in the heat.
Doc Currie wrapped up the last wicket, and we were off for lunch with only 144 to chase.
After a super BBQ lunch, the dream team of Armstrong and Fenwick began the chase steadily and it was a surprise with the score on 46 Fenwick was caught for 27.
Doc Currie hadn't finished his burger so quickly went out and bunted the ball back to the Bowler, leaving Bratton and Armstrong to bat through to drinks at 115/2.
While I suggested after drinks we drag it out for anther 15 overs, Armstrong pointed out that everyone else was underneath the trees, drinking all the beers, so he accelerated the scoring while I concentrated on red ink.
Armstrong was 67 not out when he pulled the ball forcefully through square leg for the winning runs, and he went some way to avoiding the NAGS Trophy.
Many thanks to Eastlink for a game played in great spirit.
In summary all contributed in some way to a tidy win.
Several record were broken:
· T. Fenwick, 5 overs no extras,
· D. Bellis, 7 overs while blowing over 400 milligrams, 1st no handed catch, and he also drew a cock n balls in the wedding remembrance book!
· J. Wylie, most consecutive maidens,
· Clayton , (nothing of note?)
· No aggressive banter!! (Note Absent were Taz Kapadia, Wayne “Judicary” Clifford.. )

Weather forecasters up and down the country were picking morning rain and afternoon showers. The only rain that resulted were the boundaries that 'rained' form Faville and Couchies bats.
The day started well for the Kaipaki lads. 8 out of the 11 arrived on time and all had produced quality plates. The 8 early plates easily outweighing the 3 late arrivals.
We won the toss and sent the opposition in. David Faville, Musti Kapadia and Simon Bratton all strolled in at 5 minutes to 1.00pm and we were now at full strength. Massive mention to Simon Bratton as his late arrival was quickly forgotten with his sponsorship of half a dozen bags of ice. This ensured all amber hydration beverages would be in peak condition all throughout the day.
Eric Stevens and Scott Couch given the new ball, which gave us a 230kg opening bowling partnership. Actually 229kg as Couchy lost a kilo on the drive down from Auckland?????
Couchy bowled 2 wides first up as his hands were a bit sticky and his 3rd ball, which was the widest of all, managed to snick the opening batsmen and skipper out and we were into them.
Eric follwed up a few overs later clean bowling the other opener with a full toss, Suburbs 2/15. Eric was informed before the game that John Parker reckoned bowlers shouldn't grunt when they bowl as it takes away their focus. It needs to be noted that Erics wicket came exactly 2 balls after he started grunting.
Jerem Wylie was brought into the attack to try nick out a few quick wickets. His resulting 7 over spell of 0-41 was however crucial in the outcome of the match and a very tidy spell. Jerem is actually exempt from needing to perform with the ball as his chicken schnitzels easily outweigh any on field contributions or lack thereof. Great spell Jerem.
Left arm seamer David Faville and Wayne "Big Red Dog" "Dan Vettoris Dad" "Angriest man in Cricket" Clifford shored things up in the middle and although the wickets slowed down so did the run rate and the game was evenly poised. Suburbs 152/4 after 20 overs.
Captains sums were slightly off and we had an over or two to fill in at the scoreboard end.
Deane "NAG" Bellis was handed the ball and asked to sneak us in one over and he performed accordingly. 3 runs off the over and although Couchy had a few overs up his sleave Bellis was given another over. Deane then dished up some fielding practice for the cows in the neighbouring paddocks as Suburbs took 22 off his second and final over.
A good finish in the field with Faville and Eric Stevens chimming in with late wickets which more importantly steemed the run flow.
Suburbs 269/9 from their 35 overs.
Lunch, as previously stated good effort all round here from the Kaipaki lads, and most importantly Simon Brattons Ice (plate of the day) had really done its job on the amber fizzies as hydration become a key factor in Kaipakis run chase.
Taz Kapadia assumed his usual opening spot for the big games and was partnered by Glenn Collins. Its safe to say that Glenn Collins will not be selling Taz Kapadia any discount properties in the near future as Glenn was run out for nought in the 2nd over. Wayne Clifford joined Taz and looked to begin anchoring the innings however when the Suburbs weird looking indian dude uprooted his middle stump it was not to be. A few words exchanged after the dismissal and I beleive the Suburbs Indian opening bowler is now invited to the Big Dogs wedding this weekend, where Scott Couch will be able to continue on field discussions at a more suitable venue.
Taz was joined by Jerem Wylie and altough both got off to good starts and had the run rate up where it needed to be they were both pretty dissappointed with their 30 and 41 respectivly. Kaipaki 87/4 and the game probly slightly in Suburbs favour. Michael Clayton and Deane Bellis set about trying to re-establish the innings and although not blazing the ball to all parts kept us in it with the run rate ticking along nicely. Big partnership for Clayton and Bellis because they had actually played this sort of innings out - in their heads - on Bellis's deck during one of their many "planning meetings" over a steinlager or two. Partnership of 135 and half centuries for both of them Clayton 61, Bellis 55 but as they were looking to finish off the job they set out to achieve both were dismissed and the game was on a knife edge still needing 50 runs off 6 overs. Musti Kapadia and Simon Bratton both came and went after captains instructions were to swing for the fence. This left David Faville and Scott Couch at the crease Kaipaki requiring 45 runs off the final 17 balls. And the two former Waikato Rugby openside flankers didnt muck around. Faville smashing his first 3 balls to the boundary and 3 balls later a 5 from a missed shy at the stumps had him 18no off 6 balls and Couchy swinging like he was facing his own bowling was 26 not out off 9 balls including 3 massive 6's. The boys brought us home with some amazing hitting under pressure with 4 balls to spare. Suberb lower order hitting.
A supurb all round effort from the Kaipaki Gold boys. The depth of the squad really showing through and fantastic ticker from all involved to get us home in one that could so easily have gone the other way. Special mention again to David Faville and Scott Couch for bringing it home for us but they couldn't of got in that position with the efforts of all 11 members of the side.
Suburbs boys took the loss in good spirit and all 11 of their team hung around to debate the days occurances over a few quiet beers and some of Jerem Wylies award winning chicken schnitzels.
Great day at the Nations Capital and another W in the win column for the lads.

KAIPAKI FALL 40 RUNS SHORT OF VICTORY.
Game: Kaipaki GOLD vs Hamilton Old Boys (70 over game)
Venue: Steele Park Stadium, Hamilton East
Date: Saturday 15/02/2014
Weather: Hot and Sunny
Team: Darin Armstrong, Dan Fenwick, Michael Clayton © , Wayne Clifford, Taz Kapadia, Musti Kapadia, Ryan Preston, Deane Bellis, Howard Baker, Eric Stevens, Dave Faville
Result: Kaipaki lost by 40 runs
The build-up to the this week’s top 6 match, was affected by a number of players being unavailable or out injured or on loan to Kaipaki Green, with most of the boys up the night before on Valentine Day duties. These duties included grovelling for cricket time and making up for forgetting Valentines Day …
The team assembled in a good mood, with all supplies (beer, bbq food) but no BBQ (Bratton $2.00 fine) … The outfield was flatter, and browner than the Basin Reserve on Day 1 and early signs were that massive totals were on the cards. Clayton won the toss (Wearing a Red Cap, likely a Valentines Gift – and not his Kaipaki Green and Gold Baggy - $2.00 fine) and Old Boys were sent into bat.
Old Boys amassed 319 for 5 and presented limited chances, while finding the every gap in the field. Most of the bowling figures ranged in the 40 – 50s and Kaipaki used the depth of the clubs off spinners (Clifford 1st, Baker 2nd, T. Kapadia 3rd, Fenwick 4th)* were used in an attempt to break some solid Old Boys partnerships.
*NB this is not the ranking of spinners but the order used in the bowling change
Bring on the lunch break, (hopefully the BBQ arrived … $2.00 Fine Bratton), and we all got stuck into essential re hydration before the batting innings but no mid-afternoon BBQ fuel up. Thanks whoever brought the sausage rolls!
Key Points of Batting Innings
§ Solid opening partnership from Fenwick (54)and T. Kapadia (32)
§ Kaipaki were 128/1 at the 17 over mark and well on the way to 320 total
§ Red Dog (W. Clifford) anchored the inning with a purist knock of 43*NO
§ E. Stevens (31) was promoted to 4 and came out swinging and swinging and swinging
§ M. Clayton (37)and R. Preston (21*NO) provided had solid starts but not enough to reach 320.
Kaipaki fell 40 runs short of the total, but it was a solid start to the top 6 with team efficient in the field, tight with the bowling while the batting had some good partnerships. Kaipaki need to win 3 of the next 4 games to secure a final berth.
While there was not fine session post the close of play by the fine master (Clifford $2.00 Fine), this week’s collection stands at $8.00.

Kaipaki’s generosity in the field continues.
Who: Kaipaki Gold (C)v Ham East
When: Saturday 08/02/2014
Where: Kaipaki Oval
Weather: Wet but clearing by mid afternoon.
Team: T. Kapadia ©, D. Bellis ©, E. Stevens, S. Bratton, M. Kapadia, W. Clifford, M. Clayton, J. Wylie, N. Binnie, G. Collins, J. Collins, Z . Bratton
What started out as a very wet morning slowly cleared to allow a delayed start to the game with the groundsmen working overtime. Huge efforts were made to get the game underway with the hose being used to knock the moisture off the top of the outfield and attempts were made to sweep some of the water off what was a well waterlogged pitch.
Much to the joint captains surprise Ham East won the toss and inserted Kaipaki, obviously keen to use the wet conditions to soften up the batting line up with some fast short pitched bowling. The game finally got underway just before 2pm with no reduction in over’s.
Kaipaki started strongly as the Ham East fast bowling came off the long run and trying to put the Kaipaki top order on the ropes. With one early stutter as M Clayton picked out the only fielder who could catch a cold, Kaipaki were 34 for 1. Out came the Nations 3rd best off spinner, Big Red Dog who had been touted as a batsman for this game. He scratched around a little bit to start with the first 19 runs resembling the picket fence in front of the pavilion before he kicked into gear and started to hit the ball in the middle. In the mean time J Wylie was accumulating runs at the other end and ensuring the only advantage of the wet conditions were capitalised on by Kaipaki. By the 13th over, a generous offer a ball change was extended to the visitors which they greatly accepted.
Runs continued to flow and by drinks the Nation had cruised through to 139 for one, the clouds were starting to clear and the humidity was starting sky rocket.
Jerem retired for 100* shortly after drinks and in came Nick Binnie who looked good for his 9 before he too picked out the only other fieldsmen who could of caught a cold and from then on the Kaipaki order came, pilled on some runs and then went with only exception being the run out of the Big Red Dog that was still being debated well into the birthday celebration on Saturday night. Clifford reaching 29, E Stevens 24, and S Bratton not out 30. J Collins was given a great opportunity to bat in the middle of the order and he performed extremely well for a young cricketer on the rise and has a bright future ahead of him. He compiled 35 and was the 3rd highest run scoring bating for a long period of time with his Dad who also moved briskly through to 62* by close of play.
Kaipaki finished on 327/6 at close of 1st innings.
This was about as good as the day got for the Kaipaki team as our seasons trend of being extremely generous in the field continued. 9 bowlers were used in all with some standouts being the two birthday boys at opposite ends of the scale with Bellis 7 over’s 1 for 58 and Taz 7 over’s 2 for 29. The rest of the score book resembles a dogs breakfast and I wouldn’t recommend any of the Ham East team as accountants. 9 catches were put down in the field, some of them my 2 year nephew could have caught, and Kaipaki again decided to bowl the full complement of 35 over’s finally taking the last wicket on the last ball as we finished just before 7pm. Also worth special mention is third highest run scorer for Ham east of extra’s at 36. Ham East finished on 226.
We also had a number of injury scares during the game with Nick Binnie having to be carried off the field (see ankle X-Ray), Big Red Dog and Clayton nursing high leg strains and Eric just about collapsing after his 2 over’s.
Thanks also must go to Ash Kapadia and Tanya Bratton for a great night at the Bratton’s on Saturday night, with a great spread put on for all the boys and the swimming pool was voted player of the day.
Till next week when we start the 1st round of the Top 6.

Kapadia Senior leads Kaipaki Gold To Stunning Victory
Taz Kapadia made 102 to help Kaipaki set a reasonably formidable 287 at Steele Park Stadium.
Game: Kaipaki vs Workingmans Club (70 over game)
Venue: Steele Park Stadium, Hamilton East (Artificial)
Date: Saturday 01/02/14
Weather: Faaagin Hot and Sunny
Team: Darin Armstrong, Dan Fenwick ©, Glenn Collins, Wayne Clifford, Taz Kapadia, Musti Kapadia, S Bratton, Deane Bellis, H Baker, Eric Stephens, Nick Binnie, Jacko Collins, Zaco Bratton
Result: Kaipaki won by 21 runs
Key Points
· Dynamic Opening Duo Darin Armstrong and Dan Fenwick - 4 and 13 runs respectively
· Glenn Collins, whose son Jack took a magnificent catch at point – 13 runs
· Useful and timely contribution from Wayne Clifford in the middle order – 36 runs
· Taz Kapadia – Man of the Match performance with 102 runs
· Musti Kapadia - stumped for 9 runs
· Simon Bratton, who brought some very comfortable deck chairs – 5 runs
· Deane Bellis – a quickfire 54 runs
· Howard Baker – kept the strike turning over for his more free scoring partner – 25 runs
· Eric Stevens - DNB
· Nick Binnie – DNB
· Lunch consisted of lovely sandwiches loving prepared by Ash Kapadia (I think…) anyway whoever it was very nice thank you.
· Quick turnaround on request of opposition
· Eric Stevens and Deane Bellis open bowling attack
· Deane Bellis quickly dispatched to and over boundary
· As was Howard Baker
· Introduce Wayne Clifford and Darin Armstrong who restrict the flow of runs with Wayne picking up 3 – 45, Darin excellent figures (but not good enough to warrant exemption from nomination for NAGS ‘13/’14) of 0-22
· Nick Binnie also contributed to reigning in the opposition chase with 1-38
· Equation is still tight right to the end, but with regular wickets falling Kaipaki Gold secured a well-deserved win
Other Points of Interest
· Harvey Baker showed his age with some suspect fielding, deciding his day was done after sustaining a strain to the lower back in the 9th over. Wandering over to the booze shop to pick up a few beers seemed out of the question, so thankfully his brother in law Glenn Collins took it upon himself after the game to pick up beers for the lads.
· Michael Clayton on his day off from cricket to spend quality time with family, spent the whole afternoon running drinks and having a much better time than he would’ve had had he actually spent time with his family….whew
· Two Touch and any other minor indiscretion was rewarded with a refreshing Wasabi Pea
· Musti Kapadia and Zac Bratton awarded their much deserved Baggy Green and Gold caps – Well Done!!
Captains Log – Stardate:01/02/14
· Captain for the Day – took an injury break halfway through the Workingmans Club innings for a bump to the shin.
· Captain for the Day – turned up 45 min late
· Captain for the Day – on a number of occasions ignored protocol and not walk through the gate on and off the field
· Captain for the Day – forgot the traditional cap presentation ceremony at the start of proceeding’s in favour of sorting out the batting line up and where he was batting
· Captain for the Day – blamed his lack of punctuality at the beginning of the day on picking up some beers.
· Captain for the Day – straight to the TAB after losing his wicket
Cheers

Carl Schwarz leads Kaipaki To Stunning Victory
Right handed batsman Carl Schwarz made an unbeaten 102no to help Kaipaki chase down 281 at The Otorohanga Domain.
Game: Kaipaki GREEN vs Otorohanga (100 over game)
Venue: Otorohanga Domain, Otorohanga (Artificial)
Date: Saturday 01/02/14
Weather: Hot and Sunny
Team: Charlie Parker, Corey Hyde, Fraser Kilgour ©, Carl Schwarz, Tim Raglan, Ross Laidlaw, Chris Hurren, Eddie Walker, Brad Leonard, Dean Busch, Brandon Wheel, Elliot Webb
Result: Kaipaki won outright by 6 wickets
Match Statistics:
Otorohanga 281 for 9 in 52nd Over
Leighton Parsons 72, Alex Bailey 51,
Kaipaki Bowling: Charlie Parker 4 for 40 off 10 overs, Brad Leonard – 3 for 76 off 10 overs
Kaipaki 284 for 4 Declared in 47th over
Carl Schwarz 102no, Fraser Kilgour 53, Brandon Wheel 48, Corey Hyde 37, Dean Busch 26no:
Otorohanga Bowling: Leighton Parsons 2 for 72 off 14 overs
Key Points
· Kaipaki won the toss and elected to bowl first
· Otorohanga were well measured throughout their innings and accumulated runs at a good rate throughout their innings
· Leighton Parsons was the best of the Otorohanga batsmen scoring a well compiled 72 – this innings was the rock of the Otorohanga innings.
· In the middle period of Otorohanga’s innings Kaipaki threatened to roll through them but dogged resistance from Alex Bailey and Dan Keech ensured that they scored a very competitive 281, batting to their maximum of 52 overs.
· Left arm paceman Charlie Parker lead the Kaipaki wicket takers with 4 for 40. Back from an extended holiday break, veteran seam bowler Brad Leonard also took 3 important wickets.
· Kaipaki at lunch were nervous about their chances as this was the biggest chase of their season to date and knew they were up against a very good team.
· Kaipaki openers Corey Hyde and schoolboy Brandon Wheel started strongly, in particular Hyde who blasted 37 runs from 25 balls. Kaipaki were 68 for 0 after 8 overs.
· After Hyde was dismissed by Parsons in stepped Carl Schwarz. The moment was set for the experienced Schwarz.
· 16 year old Brandon Wheel who attends St Peter’s School, only playing his second game for Kaipaki, batted solidly for his 48 and looks to have a big future with the Baggy Green and Golds. He will be disappointed to sky a catch off left arm spin bowler Calvin Hewitt as he tried to chip one over mid wicket to bring up his 50.
· Schwarz showing his class and maturity ensured that Kaipaki’s run rate always stayed in touch with the asking rate. He accumulated 1’s and 2’s and hit the bad ball to the boundary.
· Kaipaki captain Fraser Kilgour supported Schwarz with 53 – it was a critical partnership for Kaipaki and ultimately set them up for victory.
· Once Kilgour was dismissed Kaipaki still had plenty of work to do, needing 66 off 54 deliveries.
· However, Dean Busch played the cameo of his life and hit 26no off 15 deliveries that enabled Kaipaki to again get well in front of the asking rate. Kaipaki only needed 9 off the last 12 balls.
· Carl Schwarz was on 98no when Kaipaki needed only 2 runs for victory. He hit the winning runs to the boundary with a well struck pull shot for four and in doing so brought up his maiden hundred for Kaipaki.
· Kaipaki remain unbeaten in the Champions Trophy with 3 straight outright victories. They stay at the top of the points table.
· Kaipaki now look forward to their Waitangi Day 6 a Side Tournament and then on Saturday have an away trip to Tokoroa.

Tour Report
Kaipaki vs Clifton 25/01/14 -27/01/14 Mark Greatbatch Clock
The Kaipaki roadshow made its way to the Hawkes Bay this Auckland Anniversary weekend for the first annual encounter between the two fine cricketing communities of Kaipaki and Clifton to contest the Mark Greatbatch clock.
What was to be a 15 man touring party was dwindled down to only 11 as several players pulled out at the last minute. The biggest concern here was that in losing Taz Kapadia and Eric Stevens we were without an ethnic contingent so Dan Fenwick had to step up as the token darky so cheers for that Daniel, you are still our number one tourist.
Wags made a strong appearance this tour, at last count I saw 9 which is a quality effort by all concerned. Mrs Fenwick and Mrs Faville hitting the tour at pace with first night blow outs were seen to be slightly off the pace on the wags winery tour on Sunday. A more measured approach may be required if they are seeking selection for further touring parties. Although the laughs you created on Saturday evening more than certainly assures you being first picked on the next trip. Great effort ladies.
Mention must also be made of Howie Baker forgetting to inform his vice captain (or in Bellis's case, captain) of the wags winery tour and her seat was left vacant in the winery tour bus. Poor effort Baker and you will not be considered for future tours, your wife however is more than welcome.
Various forms of transport to get us down there. My vehicle carted down Michael Clayton, Fraser Graafhuis, Dean Bellis and Charlie Parker. I cannot confirm if there was a plug in fridge in our vehicle nor can I confirm that there was a few sneaky cans and I certainly won't confirm that the stereo was pumping out classic 70's and 80's tv jingles in a ruptuous sing along medley. But I can confirm it was an enjoyable start to the tour.
Various forms of accommodation also on this tour and big ups must go to Kate Nottle for organizing our 5 bedroom beach front mansion. The big fruit bowl at the front door with the word 'keys' written on it, suggesting we perhaps weren't the first out of town cricket team to utilize the facilities.????
Jerom Wylie returned from the supermarket around 10 am Sunday morning and the team kicked into full swng. The sandwich making production line was a sight to behold and four full grown men and Charlie Parker demonstrating that although we are world class cricketers a Subway franchise is well and truly on the cards when we approach retirement.
We assembled for our first official team function, the pitch inspection at 12.00 sharp, the wags departed for the winery tour led by Kiehly Clayton and Kate Nottle and the lads got down to business. We opened a brown fizzy!
The format for the match was two 20 over innings per team. Greatbatch won the toss and Kaipaki were sent in to bat.
Baker and Fenwick got us off to a reasonable start and minor contributions from Clayton and David Faville but it was the brilliance of Fraser Graafhuis who anchored the innings from the no.3 position, scoring 88 out of a team total of 149. Average score, could of been slightly higher although Kent Currie decided it was in the teams best interests to block out the last 10 balls to ensure he had his name in red ink.
Clifton's first innings could easily have got away on us after a decent start but some good bowling from Graafhuis Faville and Parker ensured we kept them to 158. Mark Greatbatch finishing on 25 no and us probably thinking lucky he didn't have a few more overs left because he certainly hits a cricket ball.
Kaipakis second dig and we were 9 behind. Captains instructions were to travel at 10 runs an over and see if we can set them somewhere near 200.
Charlie Parker got us off to a good start and along with handy knocks from Deane (current Kaipaki Nag) Bellis and Kent (it's my cricket club, Ile bat and bowl when I want to) Currie we were travelling along nicely. Enter Jerome Wylie and he showed us why he has the word Bully on his cricket bat. He managed to lose 8 cricket balls on his way to 95 off I reckon about 30 balls.
Some late big hitting from Graafhuis and we ended up with 224.
So with Clifton requiring 215 for victory it was down to the bowlers to do the job. With Clifton 108/2 after 10 overs it was game on. A wicket here and there kept us in it but with the game poised at 130/3 and 7 overs remaining a smokey looking crane hire truck pulls up and out jump the wags. With wine glasses and deck chairs in hand they set up base under the tree at the mid wicket boundary and you have never seen a game change so quickly. Guts were sucked in, shoulders pressed back and a spring in our step. Regan Hall had spent the entire day running past balls, miss fielding and generally just making up the numbers become our no.1 strike weapon with wickets and run outs. Even when Greatbatch strode to the crease he was no match for the newly enthused Kaipaki lads. And when Charlie Parker asked for 3 slips and a gully to show Batch he meant business he was rewarded with the great mans scalp.
Armstrong and Graafhuis saw we had it in the bag and decided to conveniently position themselves by the chilly bins.
We contained Clifton to 165 and the Mark Greatbatch Clock was ours.
BBQ and few beers followed and as the night wore on we happily discussed our cricketing abilities, or lack of, and confirmed the rematch at Kaipaki in October. So we will all look forward to that.
A massive thanks from everyone needs to go to Kent Currie for organizing yet another fantastic tour. His behind the scenes efforts so often go unnoticed but Currie you do a great job and we all appreciate it. Without people like Kent trips like this would never happen.
It's a pleasure to be a part of Kaipaki and long live the Nation.

Playing For The Challenge AshTray Trophy
Simon Bratton was handed the Captaincy reigns in the defence of the Challenge AshTray, a trophy played for annually between these two fine cricketing sides.
Along with the captaincy Bratts was also allowed onto the Selection Committe and decided that Kaipaki,s attitude of fielding teams that consists of “has beens" and more commonly “have nots” , needed adjusting and he introduced two 13 year olds into the side.
Zac.B and Zac O.
Now Bratts himself is regularly handed the new cherry and asked to do a job at the start of the innings. Add Captaincy to the mans name and he quickly developed a cunning attitude towards the un-enviable task of running uphill into the 50km/hr wind and as such handed the new ball to his son Zac. "Thanks Dad" (Z.Bratton)
Zac finished with figures of 0-27 but looked good and has a huge future in the baggy green and gold.
Eric Stevens as usual was allowed to come down breeze and the "Grunter" was getting them through. Figures of 3-34 a good return for our premier fast bowler (read medium pacer who just grunts really loud).
Wayne 'The Big Red Dog' Clifford enhanced his position as the best off spinner in the competition with a solid 7 over spell finishing with 4-25, with good support form Johnny 'Ice Hands’ Ahlers behind the stumps. I could sit and watch Johnny keep all day but that might come across as slighly homosexual and I'm not gay, honest I'm not!!
Nick Binnie 2-24 chimed in with 4 useful overs, however his half time performance on the BBQ was poor. Burnt snarlers equals unhappy troops. Nick will bowl into the breeze next week.
Little Zac.O making his debut for Kaipaki was givin the ball late in the innings and his looping leggies really excited the boys. Zac took his first senior cricket wicket with a beautiful topspinner trapping the batsman LBW. Figures of 1-21 off 4 overs an excellent return for the youngster and another fine prospect for the future of the Kaipaki. As we were walking off the field after bowling them out for 145 I went over to Zac.O and slipped him the match ball as a token to remember his first wicket for Kaipaki.
Eastlink’s total of 145 could of easily been a lot less. Extra’s were second top score with 16, third top scorer was 6, the opener however managed a lazy 110. However we should have had him on 60odd but Kaipaki Cricketer of the year 2011/12 (and boy that seems like a long long time ago) Deane Bellis fly swatted at one at first slip and gave the opener a life. That would be Deanes only contribution for the day. However that was more of a contribution than I managed. Quiet day at the office for Bellis and Clayton. Although Clayton did put the boundary markers out very well.
Quick turn around, no plates this week as we were away from home. The barbie made its regular appearance and as previously mentioned Nick Binnie could do with a bit of practice in this department. Without Jerem or Reg we also had no buttered bread and really let ourselves down at lunch this week. It was also noted that no sausage rolls from Clayton and no cafe style sandwiches from Taz??? Letting our standards slip lads.
Clayton and Musti Kapadia were asked to open the batting by the Skipper. Out they strode keen as ever, however four overs later Mr Clayton, Mr Kapadia, Mr Bellis and Skipper Bratton all found themselves sitting next to the barbie chewing on those burnt sausages debating their cricketing abilities.
Kaipaki were 4-16 off 4 overs…… tough start.
With backs to the wall enter Johnny Ahlers and Taz Kapadia. And that was it, 10 overs later they had knocked the runs off. Johnny as elegant as ever (boy I do sound a bit gay) and Taz in typical bludgening fashion
We wrapped things up in the 15th over 149/4 and retained the Challenge Ashtray.
An excellent partnership and Taz might be starting to like his chances of a look at the Kaipaki Cricketer of the year. Red hot tip though, if you continue to forget the sandwiches you can score as many runs as you like you will not be winning that particlar trophy!!!
Johnny finishing 44 no and Taz 84 no. Well batted boys.
Another good win for the Gold Bit and our march towards the top 6 continues.

Kaipaki GOLD CHALLENGE REPORT with Taz Kapadia
Kaipaki Maul Hapless Fraser Tech
Kaipaki GOLD at Masters Ave
Played at - Hillcrest Park
Date: Saturday 18/01/14
Weather- Hot and Sunny
The day started with Wayne "Big Red Dog" Clifford all excited about his Kaipaki debut as a captain, and the Kaipaki lads waiting for the rest of the opposition players to turn up.
Wayne won the toss and elected to bat first, hoping we could make the most of their hapless situation. Little did he know how truethis would be by the end of Kaipaki innings.
Jacko Collins and Zac Bratton fielded, bowled and batted for the opposition to make the numbers, which deserves great appreciation as it was very hard for them to play against their Kaipaki Teammates.
Kaipaki opened with Jeram ''The Bully" Wylie and Johnny Ahlers. This pair would bring mayhem and set jitters amongst the opposition bowlers from the outset.
Kaipaki 50/0 at the end of 4 overs , with Wylie power hitting and Ahlers playing some classic cricket shots.
Ahlers was caught for 34, Fraser Tech hoping this might bring some slack to their bowlers.
But Cricketing gods had different idea, Wylie brought up is 50 in no time and was joined by consistently chipping in partners in Glenn Collins 35, Dave Faville 18 and Nick Binnie 36.
Wylie brought up his 100 in quick time and was eventually caught behind on 124 (8 sixes and 10 fours).
At the end of 27th over Kaipaki were 285 for 5 , and this brought the pinch hitting partners Michael Clayton and Simon Bratton together.
Clayton powering the ball to all parts of the ground, finished on an unbeaten 77 and Bratton using his long levers for a well compiled 33.
There were no notable contributions during the innings from Musti Kapadia, Reg Hall , Taz Kapadia, Wayne Clifford and Eric Stevens - apart from drinking beers and throwing some banter around.
Kaipaki ended at 401/4 at the end of 35 overs, a massive total.
Lunch - As Kaipaki tradition goes we had a good spread and were in jovial mood…………who wouldn’t be after amassing 401.
Kaipaki decided to reverse the batting order to come up with the bowling order.
So it begun by Eric "M. Sua" Stevens and Wayne "2nd best offie" Clifford. They bowled in tandem with tight lines and complete
control with an occasional ooh and aah.
First change , Taz Kapadia was brought in who bowled in tandem with Eric.
Eric picked up a wicket as the opposition needed to get on with the game. Taz nearly had one as well but a catch was dropped by Michael Clayton. Obviously disappointed in himself for dropping a “sitter” Michael Clayton then produced one of the best fielding efforts seen by a Kaipaki Fieldsman - by executing an acrobatic dive and running the opener out.
After a few overs of hit and giggle, a few different bowlers were tried - Reg Hall and Musti Kapadia with an occasional wicket and some tight bowling .
But the show was not over yet, as it was Michael Clayton’s turn to bowl his medium "trundler marathon runner" pace bowling.
Michael then pulled out of the bag his first hat trick which included an amazing stumping by Johnny "Ice Hands" Ahlers.
The rest of the wickets were polished off by Simon Bratton and Dave Faville , which included the wickets of Jacko and Zac.
Kaipaki won by 287 runs, the opposition all out for 114 runs.
The effect of this defeat was such that every time an opposition batsman got out he went into the shed packed his bags and left. By the end of the day we had only 4 guys to shake hands with from the opposition .
Kaipaki rejoiced in some after match, drinks, bbq and banter.
Congratulations to Big Red Dog - first massive win as a Captain something to cherish.
Congratulations to Jerem Wylie on his first ton for Kaipaki
Congratulations to Michael Clayton on a first ever hat trick for Kaipaki.
Next weekend we compete for the Challenge "Ash Tray" against Eastlink.

· Fraser Kilgour batting at 3 hit 132 off 82 deliveries. It included 17 fours and 5 sixes
· Kaipaki lost regular wickets in the latter stages trying to hit out in an attempt to amass as many runs as possible allowing them enough time to bowl Hinuera out for an outright win. Kaipaki eventually declared after 51 overs and gave themselves 49 overs to bowl Hinuera out.
· Hinuera got off to a flying start scoring 34 off the first 3 overs.
· Kaipaki took the pace off the ball by bowling spin bowler Tim Raglan and it had immediate effect and got the crucial wicket of Mark O Shaughnessy.
· Hinuera ‘s run chase was well measured and their top 8 batters all got starts by getting over 30 runs per batsman.
· Hinuera consistently lost wickets at crucial times and were 270 for 6 with 10 overs to be bowled.

Parker quickly picked the ball up and threw it back at the stumps to have Austin run out by millimetres.
· Ross Laidlaw got the wicket of A Tiddy with a beautifully executed slower ball and had him bowled.
· With 6 balls remaining and 1 wicket to get Charlie Parker had the opportunity to win the game for his adopted NZ club. He only needed one ball to clean bowl the last batsman and Kaipaki recorded a famous victory on home soil.
· Throughout the game there were many innocents that suggest Kaipaki will be up against tall poppy syndrome during the Champions Trophy. This will benefit Kaipaki however, as it will strengthen the great club spirit even further. There was a very emotional team meeting on the field after the game and the players are committed to representing the Baggy Green & Gold Cap with pride on their journey for more success this season.

Kaipaki GOLD NZ HOME LOANS REPORT with Darin Armstrong
Kaipaki Start New Year In Winning Fashion…..
Who: Kaipaki Gold v West Ham
When: Saturday 11/01/14
Where: Kaipaki Oval
Weather: Overcast but warm
What For: The Seddon Cup
Team: D. Armstrong ©, N. Binnie, W. Clifford, D. Bellis, T. Kapadia, B. Bayne, J. Wylie, E. Stevens, H. Baker, M. Kapadia, R. Hall, G. Collins, J. Collins
The omens weren’t good for the visiting West Ham team from the outset…..The West Ham Captain successfully won the toss and invited the Kaipaki Team to bowl first – which is exactly what the Kaipaki Team were going to do should they have won the toss……
The Cricketing Gods then gave another hint that West Ham would be in for a tough afternoon, as a mere 15 minutes later – and a full 15 minutes before the scheduled start of play – the Kaipaki boys were all in whites and on the Oval doing what must be described as some form of catching practice – and even some of the bowlers doing some “warm ups”.
As this has never been done in the history of the Kaipaki Gold Team – the psychological damage it must have done to the opposition is incalculable.
However it must have paid off – as Eric Stevens removed the Opener with the 4th ball of the match. However in the ensuing Team huddle – Eric was puffing, sweating and generally looking as uncomfortable as David Bain at a Family Picnic. He thought he might have overdone the warm ups a bit….and perhaps he could bowl in One Over Spells. It was then advised to Eric that possibly it wasn’t the warm ups but in fact overdoing the Burger King earlier that day. Eric managed to get through 3 overs – picking up another wicket in the process – before he decided to make use of the 12th man and go for a well earned break. After 4 cigarettes and a couple of beers, he came back and bowled 4 overs later in the innings and ended up with a very respectable 4/32.
One of the Clubs many Off-spinners, Wayne Clifford, opened up from the other end and had the opposition batsmen in tangles as he bowled his 7 overs on the trot and ended up with the parsimonious figures of 1/24.
Bevan Bayne was on debut for Kaipaki - after a self imposed hiatus of 25 years away from the game – and had re-invented himself as a left-arm medium pacer.
After his first few balls started hooping around, comparisons were made with the likes of Shayne O’Connor, Geoff Allott and even the great Murphy Sua. Bevan completed a tidy 5 over spell – and was unlucky not to get a couple of wickets – with a couple of sharp chances going to ground.
All this time West Ham were dawdling around ….scoring around 4 rpo….
After Wayne Clifford had finished, Howie Baker then continued the offspin (?) attack from the scoreboard end – and he too bowled a miserly 7 on the trot to further stifle the run rate.
It was about this time that friend of Kaipaki and West Ham stalwart – Olly Te Ua – twinged a Hamstring. The Kaipaki Captain then wisely called for a drinks break – so as Olly could get himself treated and the Kaipaki boys could regroup and rehydrate.
This proved another masterstroke as both Olly and the other Opener were out straight after the resumption of play – with Olly being run out by some sharp fielding by Reg - and Nick Binnie snaffling the other.
The rest of the West Ham batsmen came and went at a steady pace –with some good catches held – none better than Musti Kapadia taking a great running catch around the boundary to take the last wicket of the innings.
Deane Bellis – recently bearded and engaged – showing bowling form he hasn’t displayed since his award winning 2011/2012 season – mopped up the tail with 2 wickets in his 2 overs.
A very tidy bowling / fielding performance.
West Ham All Out for 162 in 33.5 overs.
The Half-time spread was possibly one of the best ever put on by a Kaipaki Team and the Opposition and Kaipaki boys were all well fed – with plenty left over.
Well done lads ! Great effort on the plates !
The Kaipaki Innings started with Glenn Collins and Taz Kapadia opening up. They started at a great clip with Glenn playing some classical drives and Taz taking a more aerial route to the boundary. They had put on 60 in the first 6 overs.
Glenn was then caught behind for 38 and the Captain then followed shortly after for a well compiled 3.
This bought Reg Hall to the crease and he held the inning together nicely whilst Taz went on a Blitzkrieg – peppering the boundaries with a great display of power hitting – before Reg was out for 15 and then with the winning of the game in sight - Taz was eventually out for 83 (7 x 6’s and 8 x 4’s).
Jerem Wylie didn’t trouble the scorers* and it was left up to Musti Kapadia to hit the winning runs.
Kaipaki 166/5 in 15.2 overs.
A comprehensive victory – and the Seddon Cup remains at Kaipaki.
Congrats to Jacko Collins – who has been a reliable 12th man over the past couple of seasons - and after another good fielding effort on Saturday received his Green and Gold Baggy for playing 10 games.
Congrats also to Deane Bellis – who popped the question to Kate on Christmas Day – and has given us all an opportunity to attend another stag do.
Next Weekend we have Fraser Tech at Masters Ave – who’s keen ??
* Jerem has a superstition that he thinks he only bats well once everybody in the team has touched his bat…can we all please make a mental note to touch his bat as often as possible…..

Match – Kaipaki Seniors ( in years only ) v Hamilton Planks
Location – Kaipaki Oval
Date 15th December 2013
Team – Karl Baldwin, Stu Kane, David Smith, Steve Kidd, John Parker, Darren Pollard, Cliff Nightingale, Wayne Davies, Roger Mcleod, Geoff Foster, Sam Foster
Result – Win to kaipaki by 1 wicket
Summary
What a great day was had at the Kaipaki Oval. The toss was called by the John Parker at 1.00pm for a 30 over each match
John Parker -
“what do you want to do Laurie”
“We would like to bat”
“ Sounds great, we will field then”
Hamilton went in and got off to a great start, the Kaipaki team where running in with great gusto on a very hot day and wickets fell on a regular basis, The bowling was pretty good ( extras wasn’t the highest score ) and the guys had a a lot of laughs and banter. Feilding was the winner on the day with 4 catches by the token under 40 year old Sam Foster. The Kaipaki team had them all out under the 30 over mark for 157 which looked like a good target to chase.
Karl and Stu got the team of to a flying start both nearly retiring at the 30 run mark, sorry guys I think the talk on the side line put the kiss of death on you both !!!
We containued to get along at a good run rate with wickets falling at regular intervals. All batsmen went in with a nervous look on their face but all returned with the biggest smiles I’ve seen for ages , Steve Kidd - “that’s my first bat for 36 years”
Cricket is a very funny game?, picture this
· 3 runs to get
· No wickets in hand
· 4 overs to be bowled
Sould be a shoe in - Ball is bowled, huge appeal, bail on the ground, nobody sure what happened ? is the batsmen out- nobody sure, benefit of the doubt to the batsmen – not out is the call, batsmen walk back to the crease.
The final two batsmen get the required runs and the day finished with an enjoyable cup of tea and discussion by the whole group before 22 very tired, battered and bruised Men with the spring in their step like 20 year olds left for home. I bet they didn’t feel 20 on Monday morning !!!!!
Thanks to ...
Alison Glover- on site doctor and scorer
Regan Kidd – umpire, well done
Wifes and partners for the afternoon tea
Speights for the well earned cold stubbie afterwards
Great day guys loved every minute of it, if you read this and are keen to play a few games in 2014 please email me back and I will add you to our data base.

Kaipaki Win Mike Cotter Cup Final
A fantastic all round performance by Kaipaki has ensured a comprehensive 5 wicket victory in the Waikato Valley One Day Competition, just 2 years after rebuilding cricket club. Kaipaki now look forward to their tour of Australia.
Game: Kaipaki vs St Paul’s Collegiate, First XI (50 over One Day Game)
Venue: St Paul’s Collegiate, Hamilton (Grass)
Date: Saturday 14/12/13
Weather: Sunny and 26 degrees
Team: Charlie Parker, Corey Hyde, Kent Currie, Elliot Webb, Dean Busch, Fraser Kilgour ©, Carl Schwarz, Tim Raglan, Ross Laidlaw, Chris Hurren, Brad Leonard, Ben Schilt
Result: Kaipaki won by 5 wickets
Match Statistics:
St Paul’s 158 all out in 43rd over
Kaipaki Bowling: Kent Currie 4 for 29 off 9, Tim Raglan 2 for 19 off 10
Kaipaki 159 for 5 in 44th over
Tim Raglan 24, Fraser Kilgour 26, Carl Schwarz 24, Corey Hyde 26no, Kent Currie 23, Dean Busch 18no
Key Points
· Kaipaki won the toss and elected to bowl first
· The pitch was a little two paced and progressively got slower throughout the day
· Kaipaki’s opening bowlers bowled tightly and aggressively to restrict St Paul’s run rate in the first 10 overs.
· A magnificent piece of fielding by Ross Laidlaw had the dangerous Kipper Fawcitt run out
· Kent Currie and Tim Raglan in tandem throughout the middle stages of the innings reduced St Paul’s run rate even further but also picked up vital wickets to have St Paul’s floundering at 110 for 8
· St Paul’s tail wagged and they were eventually bowled out in the 43rd over for a modest 158
· Kaipaki lost an early wicket but a good 2nd wicket partnership by Fraser Kilgour and Tim Raglan gave good momentum in Kaipaki’s run chase.
· Kaipaki were looking a little bit shaky at 70 for 3 but Carl Schwarz and Dean Busch steadied the ship and compiled a nice little partnership.
· Kent Currie was sent up the order to make use of the compulsory batting power play and scored 23 off 18 deliveries to take the score to 131
· Corey Hyde batted superbly and finished the job off for Kaipaki with a quick fire 26no – he hit the winning runs with a massive 6 over extra cover then a 4 with a pull shot over square leg.
· Dean Busch’s 18no is not to be under estimated as he was out there for 20 overs and was the rock in the Kaipaki run chase.
· Although the run chase was slow on a dying pitch Kaipaki were well measured and got the required runs relatively unscathed.
Special Mention
There has been a lot of hard work go in to Kaipaki Cricket in the last 2 years and a special mention needs to go out to contributors such as Michael Clayton and Darin Armstrong who manage the Kaipaki Gold team, Ray Walker and Geoff Foster who organize the Kaipaki Colts team (Ray also mows Kaipaki Oval), Graeme Hurren who is the teams official scorer, Fraser Kilgour for his excellent captaincy and helping with recruitment and of course John Parker for his continued support and wisdom.
Kaipaki has been a team that has been built around a special and unique culture with the philosophy of wanting to keep people in cricket. Out of the starting 12 yesterday 5 players would not be playing cricket otherwise and the other members were at a loose end in their cricket careers. It has been a team of relative misfits!. Although one of Kaipaki’s teams had success the true success is having 3 teams on the park yesterday and a Sunday XI playing today with all players loving their cricket!

Kent Currie

Kaipaki Outplayed By St Paul’s
Kaipaki lose their first game of the season to a classy St Paul’s team. But with 7 first choice players not playing, were happy with the opportunity it gave to blood some exciting youngsters that will lead Kaipaki into the future.
Game: Kaipaki vs St Paul’s Collegiate, First XI (40 over One Day Game)
Venue: St Paul’s Collegiate, Hamilton (Artificial)
Date: Saturday 07/12/13
Weather: Afternoon sun and gusty winds, about 22 degrees
Team: Hugo Botha, Eddie Walker, Charlie Parker, Corey Hyde, Kent Currie, , Elliot Webb, , Dean Busch, Sam Pulis, Fergus McKinnon, Jason Thommasen, Mitch Mase
Result: St Paul’s won by 4 wickets
Match Statistics:
Kaipaki 167 for 8 in 40 overs
Charlie Parker 31, Eddie Walker 35, Dean Busch 21
St Paul’s 168 for 6 after 33.3 overs
C. Fawcitt 51, S Finlayson 49
Kaipaki Bowling: Elliot Webb 2 – 25 off 7 overs
Key Points
· St Paul’s won the toss and elected to bowl first
· Game was delayed because of morning rain, but a 40 over match began at 1.15pm and was unaffected once it started
· Kaipaki had a positive start to the match through Charlie Parker and Hugo Botha. They were 45 for none after 10 overs.
· A wet outfield restricted Kaipaki’s scoring rate – many boundary opportunities were missed because of the ball holding up in the wet grass which frustrated Kaipaki
· Accurate bowling by St Paul’s seam attack halted Kaipaki’s progress through the middle stages of their innings.
· Kaipaki lost too many wickets at critical times of their innings and were unable to gain any real momentum. This was due to very good fielding and bowling by St Paul’s.
· Kaipaki ended up with 167 and felt that it was 30 runs short of a good total.
· St Paul’s very good batting line up were restricted to a slow start because of good early bowling by Kaipaki. At the 15 over mark the game was in the balance with St Paul’s 62 for 2.
· Kipper Fawcitt, son of former All Black Kit Fawcitt, batted superbly and proves to have a bright future – he effectively took the game away from Kaipaki with his well compiled 51
· St Paul’s batting in good batting conditions, dry out field and speeding up, always had their run chase under control and thoroughly deserved their victory.
· Kaipaki have plenty to work on heading in to the Mike Cotter Cup Final on Saturday. The game will be a repeat of this game with St Paul’s hosting the game that will hopefully be on a grass pitch.
· Kaipaki will be buoyed by the return of many of the players who have taken them to the final. The game has potential to be a club cricket classic as two very competitive sides will go at it hammer and tong. This will be a great advertisement for cricket in Waikato Valley.

Kaipaki Gold Match Report – 30/11/13
Match Report – Kaipaki v Doolans
It was a nervous drive from Auckland on Saturday morning… I had neither pooed or treated myself to myself which are the two key ingredients to a first class performance.
Lucky for me the Kaipaki team was one of the strongest ever to don the Baggy Green and Gold!
With the clouds gathering on the horizon darker than the back of Bensons head, winning the toss became crucial to the outcome of the game…. So Richie Cunningham went and lost the toss and I haven’t seen so much disappointment since the drugs wore off and Claytons wife realised she’d married a ginger!!!
However in a stroke of luck the Doolans made their first mistake of the day choosing to bat first.
Our opening bowlers started well with Bernie Fraser grunting like a tennis pro at one end and someones twelve year old son forced to bowl uphill into gale force winds at the other. Anyway after a few overs from the Webber Brothers circus, Captain Ralph Mouth decided to bring on some real bowlers… Bowling in tandem, Dennis Lilly and Dan Vettori’s Dad suffocated the green slime just like Kent Currie likes to have done to him during intercourse.
And like the pressure Doolans are put under to make love to their priest, they soon folded like a deck of cards.
Philadelphia continued the pressure at one end with a bowling action that resembles a cerebral palsy victim with a stubbed toe. At the other end one of the Fenwick brothers (Fark knows which one!) threw up some pies which the Marist Team choked on…. Prince Tui Teka came back for a second spell and gave Marist the opportunity to at least give us something to chase.
Captain Carrot Top promoted himself to open and actually didn’t do too bad (considering gingers don’t have opposable thumbs to hold the bat) until heckling from the Umpire forced him into a rash shot.
Speaking of rashes I have one around my genitals that wont go away… anyway I digress… and I’m starting to get RSI…… so to wrap it up, it rained a little which allowed us to sink a few more beers before we hit the winning runs with plenty of overs to spare and I drove back home to Auckland drunk!
With Love
Couchy
In Summary:
Marist 153 All Out. Dan Fenwick 3 x Wickets
Kaipaki 154/3 Dan Fenwick 80 Not Out
KAIPAKI v MARIST 30/11/13 - WINNERS

Kaipaki Through To One Day Final
Rain halts Kaipaki’s winning streak but still secure 3 vital points from rain affected match against Otorohanga.
Game: Kaipaki vs Otorohanga
Venue: Otorohanga Domain, Otorohanga (Artificial)
Date: Saturday 30/11/13
Weather: Strong gusts, scattered showers and 22 degrees
Team: Tim Raglan ©, Charlie Parker, Brad Leonard, Corey Hyde, Ross Laidlaw, Kent Currie, Chris Hurren, Elliot Webb, Ben Schilt, Carl Schwarz, Dean Busch
Result: No Result due to rain
Match Statistics:
Otorohanga 251 for 8 in 50 overs
Kaipaki Bowling: Brad Leonard 3 for 31 off 10, Dean Busch 3 for 47 off 7
Kaipaki 75 for 2 after 15.2 overs
Tim Raglan 24no, Carl Schwarz 22no
Key Points
· Kaipaki won the toss and elected to bowl
· Kaipaki had to work very hard in tough fielding conditions – strong winds and a damp outfield effected their bowling and fielding accuracy.
· Otorohanga’s opening partnership of Parsons and Hewitt set a great platform that enabled Otorohanga to get a competitive score of 251.
· Former ND seam bowler Brad Leonard showed all his experience by bowling a tight 10 over spell and captured 3 vital wickets in the process.
· Veteran allrounder Dean Busch also showed he has lost none of his ability and secured good figures of 3 for 47
· Kaipaki’s reply with the bat had a tough start losing 2 early wickets - they were 29 for 2 at one stage.
· Carl Schwarz and Tim Raglan steered the ship in the right direction and had Kaipaki just in front of the required run rate when rain stopped the match in the 16th over.
· The rules of the competition states that 20 overs are to be bowled in the second innings to constitute a match.
· This was a very competitive game of cricket and would of gone down to the wire – it is a shame rain intervened when it did. Otorohanga are a much better team than their place on the points table suggests.
· Kaipaki are through to the final on the 14th of December at a venue to be confirmed.
· Kaipaki will play St Paul’s in their final round robin game next Saturday. Kaipaki will introduce some youngsters into their team as 7 first choice placers are unavailable due to representative cricket and other commitments.

Kaipaki Match Report 23rd November 2013
AUTHOR: Wayne “The Big Red Dog” Clifford
Kaipaki Gold V Hamilton Old Boys
Date; 23rd November 2013, 1.00pm
Venue: Swarbrick Park No 1
Umpires: Anyone with a white stick
Scene
Day dawned bright and blue...
Kaipaki lads at home, mentally preparing for a war with the current divisional Champs
The Kapadia brothers at home, shadow batting, 1 with a comb and the other with brylcreem polishing his ball... or were they both on calculators and taking bets with the Mumbai bookies ??
No last minute phone calls for a "ring in" needed this week - the boys were up for it! (bar those with baby sitting duties or were they scared of the quick's ……Not sure)
Warm Ups
Up to the usual professional standard…..Fielding practice consisted of force back with a rugby ball...
Plenty of Aspirin for the Challenge Conference delegates and the Friday night boys.... talk of consuming plenty and going home with a duck. Skipper will need to have a serious chat with these lads.(I mean all 10 of them as Zac is too young for these shenanigans)
The Toss
Neither Captain Courageous Clayton or the opposing skipper had a coin... so it was back to Schoolboy stuff with a cricket bat tossed in the air with the call of humps or valleys... Toss was lost (again) but Old Boys wanted to bat and Captain Courageous Clayton was dead set on taking advantage of the early life in the wicket, over head conditions, blue sky, no breeze and pleasant 27 degrees to sober up the team.
Old boys Innings: 100 all out in 26 overs
2 of the fast bowlers where told to steam in off 30 yards.
Both Eric and Simon can't see that far - but quickly got into their work. Eric with fire and pace and Simon utilising his cunning - spraying it all-round the place - lulling the batsmen into insecurity - then getting it beautifully right with the 4th ball of his spell - with a lovely out swinger nicked to 1st slip but thankfully caught by Jeram at 2nd slip - reaching behind the teapot - Howie Baker - who turns like the Titanic.
Simons 2nd wicket was a peach of a delivery. Removed their star batsmen with a peach of Yorker. (should have had a 3rd the next over but it was hit to a really old guy who should have a white stick...) Nice spell from Simon 2-21 of 3 blowing like a steam train.
Eric encouraged an up and under from their other opener -only to have 3 people screaming mine 6 times and the Captain yelling for some one else other than those 3 to catch it (thanks for the vote of confidence.) in the end - beautifully snatched by stand in Keeper - Iron Gloves Fenwick over the top.
Old boys 3 for 15...
Time to change it up in with Jerem Wylie and Deane Bellis.
Bellis - off the long run is a sight to put terror in most batsmen eyes... 8 stuttered steps, roll the arm over and have a look to see if it was near the wickets and did it land... No seriously he was setting the batsmen up for Jeram to tease.
The batsmen needed to have a piano thrown at them to see if they could play that.
Jerem was hooping it both ways with the mandatory short ball thrown in just to rock them onto the back foot and scare the crap out of them. Fine spell of seam bowling utilising the clear blue skies, pitch conditions and the 27 degrees of sunshine... 2 -14 of 7 overs...
Time for the Off Spin. Kaipaki’s 3rd best Off Break bowler after Wayne “The Big Red Dog” Clifford and Bones “The Keeper” Armstrong… is Howie “The Hammer Hand” Baker - and he was thrown the ball out of sympathy as he had to leave without a bat (babysitting again. $3.00 an hour for you boys who need a baby sitter in the future).
After a couple of flat deliveries he started to toss them up for the Old Boys batsmen to get excited and sure enough with eyes like saucers they went after him.. However – after 6 overs of guile and no turn, Howie put in the man of the match performance 4-17 of 5.4 overs. Could have been better had Captain Courageous not dived out of the way of a few shots... or Eric Stevens (the Harbour Bridge) wasn’t feeling sorry for the oppositions poor score or shots they manufactured to get themselves out for a untidy sum of a 100.
Kaipaki Innings
No card draw this week. Anyone who did not bowl was placed up the order. (only chasing 100).
The Kapadia brothers (or are they Father and Son ?) were entrusted to open the innings after all their shadow batting with the comb and brylcreem - so were in fine form.
Taz must had a fire at the Challenge Killarney or bets with the Mumbai bookies because he was launching from ball one. Shots slapped all round the ground.
Taz put the star Old Boys player back over his head a couple of times before he was finally removed for 30 - with the score at 40.
Brother (or Son ?) M Kapadia then took up the roll of enforcer. Determined to show up older brother (or Father ?) pounded a flat bat crafted 31 - to take home family bragging rights again.
Clifford “The Big Red Dog” came and went looking good for his 4.
In stormed big Reg “Long handle is my game” Hall – and he launched into the bowlers.. Not out 22 - giving him a club average from 2 knocks of 56.. Keep this up and we could find a new Kaipaki player of the year...(it was suggested he open next week to sort this out…… to his dismay)
Game Over 6.00pm ??... 101 for 3 in 18 overs.
A fine win to Kaipaki Gold
Player of the Day: Howie “The Hammer Hand” Baker
Clubman of Day : Jerem Wylie (went and got the bread and sausages for the BBQ )
Plate of the Day: Wayne Clifford (all he did)
Shot of the Day: Reg Hall
Cheat of the Day: Bump ball...............?
Please make your selves available in the coming weeks. A few tough games and lots on.....!

KAIPAKI GOLD MATCH REPORT – 16/11/13
Teams: Kaipaki v Rototuna
Venue: Kaipaki Capital
Time: 1:00 – Dark
Weather: Faarken hot!!
Author: Deane “Kaipaki Cricketer of the Year ’12” Bellis
It was 12.00 - an hour before game time, and as I sat on the park bench slurping a cold beer anticipating an afternoon of good banter, cucumber sandwiches and of course, a resounding Kaipaki Gold bit win - in strolled to the ground the most inconspicuous bespectacled individual wearing a faded blue shirt with “Sidu” emblazoned across the shoulders. In my ignorance, I assumed that Sidu was someone that had been called into the Gold team, as once again Darin “Kaipaki Cricketer of the Year ’13” Armstrong was still scrambling to find 11 players at the eleventh hour. So I introduced myself as Kaipaki Cricketer of the Year ’12 and WBC/WBA heavyweight champion, only to find out that Sidu was in the ring for the other team.
I note this seemingly innocuous introduction, as little was I to know then the impact Sidu would have on the course of the day….
Anyhow, the day’s events started with a presentation to Glenn “Donald Trump” Collins of his baggy green and gold, recognition of 10 caps for the famous icon. Then captain Mike “Cassius” Clayton duly won the coin toss and choose to bat. As the Green bit so often does in the spirit of the Kaipaki Nation and good sportsmanship, we drew straws, however after a bit of negotiation Howard “there’s no free beers at any golf tourney I organise” Baker and captain Mike “Cassius” Clayton, walked out to open the batting. Eric “Roastbuster” Stevens drew 3 whilst Darin “Kaipaki Cricketer of the Year ’13” Armstrong had his obligatory top order position at 4.
The aforementioned openers got the Gold bit off to a relatively sedate start with an opening partnership of 40 runs between them before the fall of the first wicket. A premeditated cross bat hike towards the pavilion end to a slow in swinging delivery resulted in the middle stump of the Kaipaki captain uprooted end on end.
This brought one-half of Kaipaki’s ethnic contingent to the crease, Eric “Roastbuster” Stevens. Usually a starter for 11 through 15, Eric produced the best innings of his 47 years with some exquisite timing and placement of the ball to all four corners of the park. Demonstrating the finesse and technique of an accomplished opening batsman, Stevens stroked his way to a man of the match performance of 84.
In the meantime, Darin “Kaipaki Cricketer of the Year ‘13” Armstrong made a ‘not worth mentioning but I have’ 41 whilst the other remaining batsman made various ‘not worth mentioning so I won’t’ contributions. I’m not certain whether Howard “there’s no free sausages either at any golf tourney I organise” Bakers contributions would ever make a write-up, but for the sake of peace and harmony his third top score of 38 pushed the Kaipaki Gold bit total to 260 all out.
Loading up with sausages, pizza, savouries, chocolate biscuits and beer at the interval, the Gold bit formulated a game plan to end the game as early as possible (with a win), have few beers, then get somewhere to watch the biblical drama - David v Goliath.
Bowl fast, take catches, field well and generally don’t let the opposition score any runs was the mantra for the afternoon.
Enter Sidu. Sidu produced an innings worthy of an IPL contract – 92 off 29 balls to be exact. This is where the carefully articulated game plan went walkabout. At this extreme run rate, we would be back in the sheds before 4pm but on the wrong side of the ledger!
The opening bowling attack of Rosco “Oscar Pistorius” Laidlaw and Johnno “Tramp Stamp” Jeffris found themselves monstered to all parts of the Kaipaki Capital with no relief in sight. Howard “I can’t even operate my own BBQ” Baker fared no better, belted for 32 off his first over.
As we all know good captaincy involves the ability to assess the situation and adapt accordingly. Mike “Cassius” Clayton reverted to game plans B, C, D and E in an effort to make a breakthrough. Not until he implemented game plan F did the direction of the game change. Still a little ginger (hehe) from the operation on his nuts, the captain decided to take the approach of changing field placements after every delivery. This had the effect of slowing the run rate down but also meant that the drinks break after 17 overs was at 7pm. Fortunately, boredom now got the better of Sidu who holed out to Simon Bratton who found himself tangled up in his long arms and legs before taking a splendid catch in the deep.
With grumblings amongst the lads that the game was dragging on later that what they had agreed with wives and girlfriend, game plan G was implemented which was to bring on part time armballer and Kaipaki Cricketer of the Year 2013, Darin Armstrong. A superb spell of 7 overs, 4 wickets and not many runs bought the Gold bit well back into the game with a fighting chance to steal victory from the jaws of improbability. Supported by a (fortunate) second spell from Howard “all things Wanganui Collegiate are great” Baker - who managed to pick up a wicket late into the evening.
However all was to no avail. With midnight approaching, the opposition lower order managed to get the remaining runs with 5 overs to spare to win by 3 wickets
Thanks must be given to: Nick “concrete hands” Binnie for a notable but forgettable performance behind the stumps; Rosco “Oscar Pistorius” Laidlaw, Kaipaki’s premier fast bowler who after flying Mexican airlines at one point, was extremely unfortunate not to pick up a wicket and of course the Kaipaki Men of the Future Zac Bratton and Jacko Collins for enabling Eric “man of the match” Stevens to take a well-deserved spell on the side-lines.

Match Report Kaipaki Gold Bit Saturday 9th Movember.
Author: Simon Bratton
Venue: Steele Park
Weather: Unusually Hot for November.
Food/Plate Winner. Howie Baker with the BBQ and Snags, Also Jeram Wylie for the Chicken Burger Patties.
Opposition: Star Varsity
The Boys observed a minutes frivolity in acknowledgement of Captain Claytons recent medical procedure. This involved jokes about all things ginger and was well recieved by all. (Yes Couchy - this could have been your finest hour if you hadn’t missed it)
The Toss…. Who knows, I was late and arrived to find myself batting well down the order. Russell Butler was dismissed in the first over, and Varsity were on top early.
Deane Bellis (former Kaipaki Cricketer of the year) and Taz Kapadia put together a determined partnership - a mixture of tight defence and power hitting, with some well timed maximums delighting Deane’s Steele Park fan club, and although the pair shut up shop in the 15th over to bat until drinks, they scored at a rate that had Varsity concerned. Kaipaki around 140/1 at drinks.
Post Drinks –and after a few more productive overs, Taz - worried about having to shout the lads for scoring a TON - padded up to a straight one and walked on 88 following the LBW appeal.
Bellis saw the wisdom in avoiding the fanfare, and shortly after holed out in the 90s.
The momentum well established - the other batsman hit freely and scored quickly. Stand in skipper Fenwick a quick 30, and useful runs from Preston, Bratton and Baker.
Worth a mention - the brief innings from Jeram Wylie, who belted his 1st ball for a towering straight 6 into the top of the oaks beside Cook street, and the next 2 balls went the same way - 18 off 3 - looked to be having a good time.
So at the break - Kaipaki 298/7 off 35. Varsity had a leggie grab 5 for 38 - a good effort considering the carnage.
A quick sausage after lighting the BBQ ( a task with inherent danger attached ) and the lads took to the field.
Eric (sporting a Roger Randle/Parnel Panther inspired moustache) along with Nick Binnie opened up the bowling, and Varsity started well, scoring at a reasonable pace.
Although we beat the bat regularly no wickets came, nor any chances. J Wylie bowled with good pace and little luck.
Varsity missed a trick by slowing a little in the last few overs before drinks and after 17 overs were 110/0. so 188 needed from 18 overs at 10.45 rpo.
After drinks Deane Bellis shelled a catch at long off, but held one the following over to expose the tail.
Boys stayed on task to pick up a sharp runout, and Eric took the middle pole out of the pinch hitter before he had a chance to play a shot in anger.
At 4 down, Varsity surprisingly shut up shot and batted the game out.
The boys were disappointed with the lack of intent from Varsity. So much so – that when a Varsity batsman called for a drink with 3 overs to go (and 120 required) even the Gentleman of Kaipaki Cricket - Howie Baker - expressed his frustration (could it be the moustache - as he let out a Kent Currie styled rant).
Varsity finished up at 220/5 after their allotted 35 overs.
All in all a good effort, and the Varsity lads were a good bunch, and had some capable cricketers, so a good win to our side. We bowled a few wides and gave to many 4 balls,
Regards All,

KAIPAKI GOLD ON TARGET FOR SENIOR C CHAMPIONSHIP
Author: Darin Armstrong
Who: Kaipaki Gold v Hamilton Lions
When: Saturday 02/11/13
Where: Kaipaki C.C
Team: M. Clayton, D. Armstrong, D. Fenwick, R. Preston, T. Kapadia, M. Kapadia, D. Faville, S. Couch, J Wylie, T. Lomas, E. Stevens
The Kaipaki Gold Team remain undefeated after one round of the Hamilton Senior C Competition.
The usual Toss was not required this week as Skipper - Michael Clayton - advised the opposition that we would be fielding first – as we had 6 individuals who were required at 6 different functions at 6.00pm – and we didn’t want to be fielding with 5 players. Overawed by his size and possible angry Ginger tendencies – they accepted this…. and Kaipaki were in the field.
The pace duo of David Faville - playing his first game in 2 seasons – and Eric “dotcodotnz” , “Murphy Sua”, “Parekura Horomia” Stevens opened the bowling and it wasn’t long until Eric secured the first wicket.
Kaipkai then got into their work and it was debutant Jeram Wylie who proved the star with the ball finishing with 4 wickets from his spell – including a wicket with his very first ball.
The little Lankans put up little resistance as Scott Couch got amongst the wickets as well – with some express pace – provided by the magic Yellow Headband.
At drinks, the opposition were 90/8 and Claytons decision to bully the opposition into batting seemed to have been a good one.
First ball after Drinks however, Keeper Armstrong dropped a goober off Scott Couchs bowling – which allowed the opposition tail to wag.
The little Lankans were finally dismissed for 134.
Kaipaki would be disappointed with their bowling accuracy – as Extras were the highest scorer with 44 (No Byes !) – the highest score of the day.
However they will all be impressed with their new found core strength - as Skipper Clayton had the whole Team down doing Burpees at the conclusion of each over and at the fall of every wicket.
Good bowling effort by Jeram and Couchy. Jeram unlucky not to get a 5-fer - as he didn’t get given what was possibly the plumbest LBW in the History of Cricket.
Good effort by Tom Lomas in the field – having no hesitation in throwing himself around the ground and getting Ryans whites filthy…..
Some good catches held by Taz and Jeram.
LUNCH….A good effort with the Plates lads – not our best – but not our worst - we will have to step it up for the next match….
As is Gold tradition – those who didn’t bowl get to bat first – so it was Ryan Preston and Taz Kapadia who were given the task of seeing off the new ball.
Ryan was seeing it like a Pumpkin - for the first ball – and was skittled on the second….
This brought Musti Kapadia to the crease and the Brothers Kapadia put on a Second Wicket Partnership of 51 – with some elegant back foot Drives from Musti and some power hitting (finally !) from Taz. The spectators were comparing it to watching the Waugh Brothers or the Crowe Brothers…but in reality it was more like watching Venus and Serena Williams.
Anyway - Musti was back in the hutch for a well compiled 27 – and this set off a mini collapse – with the established and well respected batting line up of Clayton, Armstrong, Faville and Couch all very quickly in – then out – for a total of 5 runs between them. So 63/3 became 72/7 – and 134 seemed a fair distance away….
However every epic needs a hero – and Kaipaki found one in debutat Jeram Wylie. Jeram – along with Dan Fenwick – steadied the innings and slowly dismantled the opposition bowlers with some lusty blows - including 21 off one over.
The game was won with no further loss of wicket - in 16.2 overs – Jeram not out 41 and Dan Fenwick not out 20.
Well done lads – a great start to the new campaign.
Congrats to the 2 x debutants Tom amd Jeram – welcome to Kaipaki Nation.
This Weekend were are playing Star Uni at Steele Park # 2 – who’s in !?!

On a side note – The Kaipaki Golf Team have lobbied Golf New Zealand and have contacted the Ombudsmen of World Golf after being shafted at the Tamahere School Fundraiser Ambrose Tournament last Friday.
The Team of K. Currie, M. Clayton, D. Armstrong and M. Armstrong battled the conditions valiantly all day (and by conditions I mean the BBQ’s stationed every 3 holes and the non-stop beers being delivered by the ladies in the Golf Carts…) to shoot a very credible 4 under par 68.
Given they were all playing off a 24 handicap – this would equate to a Team Handicap of 12 – and a nett 56. However – come prizegiving they were credited with a nett 65 (handicap of 3).
Organiser of the Tournament – and ex-Kaipaki Cricketer - Howie Baker - was unavailable for comment.
In further developments - on the same day, at the same Tournament, it is rumoured that the aforementioned Baker and an ex-Cricketing buddy of his – Deane Bellis (Kaipaki Cricketer of the Year 2012 and Horses Ar*e Winner 2013) - may have conspired for Bellis to win the major Raffle Prize of a Signed and Framed 2012 Chiefs Jersey.
Baker was last seen talking to an Officer from the Serious Fraud Office…..and the Prize has been taken from Bellis’ possession until such time as this matter is resolved.

Subject: Kaipaki Pre Season Match v Hamilton Old Boys
Match: Pre-Season Fixture 21/10/13
Author: Howie Baker (Right Hand Bat, Occasional Offspin (very Occasional….))
Dear Kaipaki Nation,
A new season dawns, the winter gloom gives way to a summer of expectation, the sound of leather on willow once again echo’s from the hallowed grounds of the mighty Kaipaki Nation.
But wait what’s this, a new sound emanating from the Kaipaki oval. The sound of leather smashing into bone, the screams from a certain dotcodotnz and the splattering of blood over the beloved Kaipaki shirt. Surely this is not the way the start the season.
What started as a friendly 20 -20 game, to ease ourselves into the 2013-14 season, on Sunday against Ham Old Boys, produced an array of highlights that could almost fill the entire highlights package for the year.
I will begin to attempt and talk you through dotcodotnz’s innings. Bear with me and visualise as much as possible.
It all starts in the dressing sheds with the obligatory hello’s after months of isolation over winter. Enter dotcodotnz. He places himself in the lazyboy and begins to recount his latest escapade from the night before, culminating with the fact that he saw action earlier that morning. Little did he know that that was not the last time on this day.
The Traditional drawing of the cards for batting order. Dotcodotnz pulls the Ace – pad up old fella.
First ball, WHACK, a blow to dotcodotnz in the midriff. No issue, shows no pain, plenty of protection on that part of the body. Steadies himself for the next ball.
Second ball, short, BANG, right between the eyes. Glasses shattered, blood everywhere. Dotcodotnz forced to retire and reflect that he was probably better to have stayed in bed with certain young filly.
Following the fall of the first wicket, re enter dotcodotnz. Its almost like South Africa 1953, battered and bruised, dotcodotnz takes guard, a tad nervous. See’s the first ball go by, thinks to himself, yep sweet, saw that okay. Second ball, short, into the gloves, BANG, broken thumb.
Now for most that would have been the end of the day, but not dotcodotnz. Bowled 2 over’s, fielded valiantly even when in the first over tried to stop a ball with his injured hand. Cricket was certainly not the winner of the day for dotcodotnz, however I am reliably informed that “sympathy rewards” were duly forthcoming that evening.
The day will also be remembered for some outstanding fielding from Kaipaki.
Taz Kapadia pulled off stunner of a catch at cover that had boundary written all over it. I’m suspecting the hands are still pretty tender even now Taz?
The off season has obviously seen Wayne “Big Red Dog” Clifford brushing up on his ballet. This, to the detriment to the young 10 year old opposition Batsman (batsboy ?) who nobody could bowl out. Wayne fielding at short mid on, fielded the ball in his left hand, pivoted, pirouetted and then proceeded to throw the stumps down – with a back flick of the hand, all in the same motion. Outstanding display of athleticism, which shut Guppy & Bones up following their observation that the combined age of the fielders on the Leg Side totalled 184 yrs. And we only had 4 fielders on the Leg side !
The matched finished in the final over with the Old Boys team hitting the winning runs after some idiot threw me the ball to bowl the last over. Nice….
Fantastic day had by all.
I hope reading this report stimulates the desire to rekindle the relationship with Kaipaki cricket over the summer fellas.
Look forward to seeing as many of you as possible when the season officially gets under way.
Yours in “always wear protection dotcodotnz” day and night

2013 - WEEK 4 Match Report
Dear Kaipaki Nation, (Weekly email comes 2 days earlier this week…must mean we won) The Green on the baggy caps is Greener, the Gold on the baggy caps is Golder, the grass is Greener in the Kaipaki paddocks, the sun is Golder as it beams down on the Kaipaki paddocks, the sheep are happier and they are looking even more beautiful today...life is great in Kaipaki Nation as news spreads worldwide about our first victory in the Waikato Valley Premier Competition in 17 years. A date hasn’t been confirmed but there will be an announcement of a Kaipaki National Holiday soon, it will probably coincide with a working bee… Kaipaki’s controversial rotation policy continued for this game as the policy of playing all 120 rostered players, within the first 2 years back in to competition, is adhered to. As Kaipaki Oval will be hosting the World Cup Final in 2015 it’s important that we get our strongest XI on the park for that game, so giving everyone sufficient game time is critical. The game saw the introduction of some of last years key contributors Scott Couch, Deane Bellis and Michael Clayton. Premier fast bowler Scott Couch showed no signs of a poor off season which saw him lose several jobs and of course that infamous back injury that saw him in a wheelchair for 3 weeks. Wearing his trademark yellow headband he showed that he had lost none of his pace, his quick wit having opposition and team mates in fits of laughter…however his bowling also had the opposition and team mates in fits of laughter. Michael Clayton probably wished he had never turned up…as Couch is without work he had to put in a 28 hour day on Friday and failed to contribute a thing apart from sausage rolls. Deane Bellis played his last game at Kaipaki as he gave the captain out caught behind. 3 rules at Kaipaki 1. No drinking during Saturday games 2. Bring a plate 3. Don’t give the captain out if you want an illustrious career wearing the baggy green and gold. On a serious note, Hinuera were great fellows to play against and our boys played very well in trying conditions to beat them. We have a big away game this weekend against Te Kuiti…the team will be announced on Wednesday. Congratulations to Kaipaki’s greatest cricketer since Sean Austin. Fraser Kilgour was selected to play against Counties yesterday for the Waikato Valley Senior Team. Good work mate – do our club proud. It was great to see Kaipaki written in brackets after your name. Good work to Douglas Bradley for scoring some runs recently also, your dad hasn’t stopped talking about it and believes that you take after him…???. Look forward to having you involved with our team soon! Saturday Match At A Leg Glance – v Hinuera @ Kaipaki Oval Toss: Kaipaki and elected to Bat Kaipaki 244 all out in 38 overs Hinuera 228 all out Kaipaki win by 16 runs Contributions of note: Marcell Cummings Toone 77, Fraser Kilgour 49. Chris Hurren 24, Kent Currie 56no…Scott Couch 3-54 off 9, Eric Stevens 2-40 off 9, Kent Currie 3 – 34 off 9, Marcell Cummings Toone 0-31 off 9 Contributions that created a great deal of humour: Michael Clayton’s 3 ball duck, Eric Stevens turning up without his neck and impersonating Gladstone Small, Best Plate: Chris Hurren’s Mum… outstanding sandwiches! still waiting for Deane Bellis’s…geez it must be good. Please visit www.kaipaki.com for any further information about all types of events at the Oval. Thanks again for everyone’s support. The players look forward to representing the Kaipaki Community with good values and spirit in the coming weeks. WEEK 3 Match Report
Hi Baggy Green & Golders!
What a great way to start the season with 2 very good games of cricket played on the Oval. It is obvious that guys have put in a lot of effort to get their bodies and coordination in check for the new season. Because guys have committed fully to making our club a successful one I’m now in the process of creating a management team of 12, because that’s what highly skilled and professional teams do these days…the management team will consist of the following: 4 Psychiatrists (1 for Bellis, 1 for Couchy and 2 for me), a nutritionist (for all of us), 2 massage therapists (for the man of the match, although most of us are intrinsically motivated there are still some guys that are extrinsically motivated), A Media Liaison Manager, an umpire, a physio, a doctor( have one of those but can you please start using rubber gloves and not batting gloves… most of us cannot walk properly at the moment) and we will also have a lawyer.

David Johnston has donated 2 cricket bats for the team gear bag – David has been heavily tied up with Bay of Plenty cricket in the last 20 years and has got to know Kane Williamson and Daniel Flynn well – one of the bats was a bat used by Kane Williamson. Thanks for your support David and look forward to seeing you at the oval again soon.
Ray Walker for continuing to mow the outfield at the oval - the oval looks a picture at the moment. Ray, I am bowling from the tennis court end so can you please build something sturdy that I can push off. The wire netting surrounding the tennis court is not solid enough and I also have to negotiate the embankment – as a consequence I’m finding it hard to find my rhythm.
Graeme Hurren for bringing Chris to every training so far this season and helping out with the scoring. Great to have you involved mate.
