Match Summary:
Kaipaki Oval looked an absolute picture on Sunday as Kaipaki hosted Seddon Cricket Club. Seddon CC is a club founded and administered by former New Zealand spinner Evan Gray and was made up of young players from around the Waikato and Hamilton district.
Kaipaki won the toss and elected to bat first. Englishman Thomas Benn set a good foundation by scoring a well compiled 62 which included many of his trademark cover drives. Alan Ford (48) and Corey Hyde (44no) also cashed in on the excellent batting conditions by accumulating runs steadily throughout Kaipaki's innings.
Leighton Parson's however, was the destroyer and the catalyst for a massive Kaipaki score. His 161no off 83 deliveries included 23 fours and 5 sixes. His wagon wheel looked impressive with a good balance of stroke making right around the wicket. Kaipaki finished with 370 for 6 off 40 overs.
Seddon CC started their innings well with opening batsman Grant King scoring a patient 60 and contributing to an opening partnership of 76. Another impressive batting performance came from Kieran Thomas who scored 56 retired hurt batting at number 3. Although Seddon CC never really threatened the required run rate they batted consistently well throughout their innings and were only 6 down at the end of their innings.
Alan Ford completed a good all round performance by taking 4 for 50 off 8 overs.
Kaipaki's next game will be against a touring Paraparaumu Cricket Club XI on the 13th January.
