Kaipaki will be represented by some quality cricketers as they head to Clifton (Hawkes Bay) for the annual Clifton Cricket Carnival for players that are between the ages of 35 and 50.
The creation of this Cricket Carnival came about as Kaipaki were due to play Clifton this year in Clifton as part of an annual exchange between the two clubs that started in January 2014. The two clubs play for the Greatbatch/Bradley Bat which has been shared 1 game apiece and is currently held by Clifton. Kaipaki muted the idea to Clifton of inviting 2 other teams and turn the event into a quadrangular tournament over the space of 3 days. Sam Howard from Clifton thought it was a good idea and both clubs started to organise the logistics.
Leighton Fisher took up the invitation to organise an Auckland team known as North Bombay CC (which looks pretty competitive) and former New Zealand spin bowler Evan Gray has also been positive about the concept and selected a strong side from Wellington—Wellington Wanderers CC.
This Cricket Carnival has aspirations of being the premier cricket carnival in NZ within 10 years. Kaipaki are looking to host the event in 2017.
The idea of the carnival is to give an opportunity for mid 30’s to 50 year old men to play cricket in a social but competitive environment. Obviously there will be socializing during the 3 days but the attitude from all the teams is that playing good hard competitive cricket will be the catalyst to a successful tournament.
