Dear Baggy Green & Golders,
We are 5 weeks into the current season and I thought it is an appropriate time to write a brief report on the season thus far…
3 Major Disappointments
1. Still no sight screens to push off
2. Chafe
3. The non appearance of Dr Graeme Currie (not because of his batting but the fact we need him after 2-3 overs of genuine pace)
3 Major Positives
1. Games that finish at 12pm. This gives players the ability to hydrate with refreshments after the game while the WAGS think you are still playing
2. The contribution of Vaseline – Vaseline’s continued support to players that are over the age of 30 and are around 100kg is greatly appreciated. It makes steaming in off 35 paces that much more achievable (Vaseline helps Chafe in case there’s any confusion)

A massive thank you must go out to Darin Armstrong who continues to galvanise the Kaipaki Gold part of the Kaipaki Green & Gold Team. The population of Kaipaki Nation is growing by the day and is threatening to overtake China for sheer mass of people…you would think it would be easy for Darin to select a side of XI every Saturday but as like most 30-50 year olds the ability to get it past the wife or girlfriend or wife and girlfriend is an on-going concern and threatens our sustainability as a team…
Below are 5 excuses I’ve used in the past that’s allowed me to play cricket for a few years now:
1. ‘Love, I’m just popping down to the supermarket – do you want anything?’
2. ‘Love, I’m just going down to get some petrol for the Lawnmower’
3. ‘Love, I’m just popping out’ ‘where you going?’ gf says… ‘I can’t say, it’s a surprise’
4. ‘Love, I just got a text from the boss and he wants to borrow my cricket gear. He’s asked if I can drop it around to him’ (please be weary of this excuse as some of you may be self employed)
5. ‘Love. I’m just popping down to the local church to see if it’s a good place to get married’
Please note that I’m on my 3rd relationship since being associated with Kaipaki Cricket.
Ray Walker and Geoff Foster’s help in getting the Kaipaki Colts team up and running has been massive. Without these 2 guys I don’t think it would of ever of happened.
Michael Clayton continues to be the greatest of club men…always there to lend a helping hand and contribute where needed to ensure Kaipaki Nation is a happy place. His form with the bat has been poor however.
The POMS
Tim Raglan and Charlie Parker are welcome additions to the ‘Nation’. They have adpated to Kaipaki life very well indeed…they turned up very good cricketers as they invented the game so are obviously very good at it. It hasn’t taken them long to not be able to bat, bowl or field. However, their contribution to having a happy changing room has been instumental in the success of the Green team. They are probably quite happy at the moment as their national rugby team came within 8 points of the All Blacks and managed to score a try…this is not a bad effort for an English rugby team.
Ashes Cricket Tour to Sydney
We can confirm that 13 Kaipaki Nationals will be touring Australia in January. We will be playing one game (of cricket I think?) against Long Reef CC and attending 2 days of the SCG 5th Ashes Test match. Please note that there will be no match reports or Kaipaki tour diaries as what goes on tour stays on tour.
Teams
It has been a magnificent effort to get 3 teams up and running this season. The Kaipaki ‘Green Bit’ of our team are currently unbeaten and have played some fine cricket in the process. The team has good depth and a very special team culture. Members of the ‘Gold Bit’ of the Kaipaki team continue to prolong outstanding careers…they have been in fine form so far this season and are serious contenders to take out the Hamilton Senior C Competition. Against all odds we managed to get the Kaipaki Colts team up and running. The team consists of players that are aged between 13-18. They haven’t won a game yet but the real success of it all is that they are loving their cricket and they can’t wait to play the following week.
Kaipaki Philosophy
Please remember what Kaipaki Nation is all about…’To keep people involved in cricket by providing them a unique experience filled with fun and banter. Creating friendships for life…and steaming in off 35 paces with a wide gait because of the Chafe that is unbearable’
