Kaipaki won the toss and elected to bat in very good batting conditions. Fraser Kilgour set the tone with some clean hitting at the top of the order while skipper Carl Schwarz and Jerem Wylie accumulated runs at a very good rate in the middle of the innings. Kaipaki had a mini collapse towards the end of their innings losing 3 wickets in the space of 2 overs. The experienced Bradford Leonard and Englishman Greg Patterson steadied the ship and Kaipaki ended with a formidable 324.
Kaipaki’s bowlers struggled initially and often failed to find a good line and length. Ross Laidlaw and Jerem Wylie were the chiefs destroyers both finishing with 3 wickets each.
Although a good first up victory Kaipaki will be concerned by the amount of extras they gave away. There is plenty to take out of the game but for the most part there is even more to work on.
· Jerem Wylie’s 82 came off 52 balls and included 6 sixes
· T Singh from Morrinsville was the 8th bowler used and he ended up with impressive figures of 5 for 46
· The increase in size of one of Kaiapaki Oval’s boundaries was met with positivity.
· It was a great start to the season with many Kaipaki and Morrinsville supporters attending the match.
