Result: Good Guys won by 16 runs

Match Summary
The day started with mixed bag of weather but it was game on come 1pm, a minutes silence in memory of Phil Hughes and with Howie Baker assuming the captaincy duties. With the toss lost with my lucky coin and asking us to bowl (which we were going to do anyway) - The opening bowling pair of Couch and Moran had the visitors on the ropes early, and seems a bout of complacency started as the top and middle order struggling with the tight bowling.

At various stages of the day – the below were the headlines for the Match Report:

1.       Kaipaki start well with the Good Guys on the ropes at 62/ 6 after 17 overs
2.       Kaipaki impressive as new opening bowling attack roll Good Guys for 126 all out!

While it was a good day for Bellis and the rest of the Kaipaki Wedding goers, it was a tough day in the field.

All is not lost though Kaipaki has recruited the services of Gareth Moran and Neil Armstrong – welcome to the club. Please ensure you make your way to the local op shop to get fitted out, contact Kent Currie to purchase some gear, and come 10 games you will be presented with baggy green and gold.

Kaipaki recover from horrendous 2nd over to just fall short in a game, which went down to the wire vs. Marist at Tazmond Park.

Marist won the toss and decided to bowl first, and it was a solid Kaipaki start 8-0 after the 1st. What happened in the 2nd over is best left untold with 2 wickets on the first two balls of the over left Bellis to face the hat-trick ball in his first bat of the season. Hold on…. it actually is worth noting what happened….. Nick Binnie’s golden duck was followed up by another golden duck to Sunny Prabhu. Bellis managed to grab a single preventing the hat-trick, before, on the very next ball Fenwick was snapped up by a sharp catch at first slip to leave Kaipaki 9-3 after 2 overs.

Bellis departed soon after before a momentous partnership between Johnny Ahlers and Wayne “Big Red Dog” Clifford looked to have swung the momentum back Kaipaki’s way. Johnny fell just short of his 100 (92) in a partnership of 149 after a very impressive innings. Taz managed to get 5 beers down thinking he would be better not making the pitch after his bat had already been used twice for 2 ducks, but he did have to eventually trot to the crease managing 1 boundary before the last 3 batters decided to give some Marist some fielding practice skying catches all over the field while adding very few runs. Red Dog ending on 74 Not Out in Kaipaki’s 213/8.

Kaipaki’s fearsome bowling attack was to be spearheaded by young Jack Collins and Howie Baker, whom I hear was in fine form vs. Greatbatchs mob. Unfortunately Howie couldn’t match up to this form although he did manage to snare the first wicket. Collins mixed up his spell and was unlucky not to snare a wicket, beating the bat on a number of occasions.

Reg Hall was then into the attack and snapped up the 2nd wicket with Sunny holding onto the catch, the next batter was out to impress some bloody long haired bloke (or his so called chick) and while he couldn’t touch Howie, he torched Reg for few big hits, before Reg got the better of him and knocked over his middle stump. Some outstanding keeping by Ahlers looked to have brought Kaipaki into a strong position, but the umpires were too busy texting to be able to see 2 sharp stumping chances, Firstly off Howie and then Reg. Howie finishing with 1-33 off 6 while Reg bowled out 2-29 off his 7.

Sam Blake was then into the attack and looked very sharp in his 5 overs with some great variation and took out Marist’s (“I love myself”) captain to leave the game in the balance. But some power hitting by left handed Willard delivered the knockout punch as numerous bowlers attempted to get the Marist Pr*ck out.

Red Dog did state if the wickets had just been a little higher he would have got him.

In the end it was in the penultimate over that Willard would smoke his 9th 6 as Marist got the big W.
