Match Summary
Kaipaki went in to this game with an attacking mindset and wanted to take the game to St Paul’s. Playing on a grass pitch for the first time this season Kaipaki found it hard to come to terms with the pace and movement of the green seamer and found themselves 41 for 6 after 13 overs of play. Although the pitch was doing plenty and the St Paul’s seam attack was disciplined Kaipaki’s batman will be disappointed by some of their shot selection that found themselves back in the pavilion.
Although the top order failed Kaipaki will be pleased with the fight by the tailend batsman. The score was looking to be embarrassing at one stage but the experienced Corey Hyde and Englishman Greg Patterson dug deep and helped Kaipaki get to 197, a score line that looked impossible earlier in the innings.
Kaipaki went into the field believing they had a sniff of victory. The bowlers were generally disciplined in their line & length. Although not taking many wickets they restricted St Paul’s to a moderate run rate that made them fight hard for their runs required. Jerem Wylie was the best of Kaipaki’s bowlers returning impressive figures of 1 -16 off his 10 overs. Wylie beat the bat endlessly.
Although Kaipaki will be unhappy with their performance they had 7 players unavailable for selection for this game. The experienced Ross Laidlaw, Captain Carl Schwarz and former ND representative Bradford Leonard among the players that were missing.
Kaipaki must win this week’s game against top of the table Hinuera this Saturday to make the One Day Final the following week. Hinuera are an impressive outfit this season and Kaipaki will have to be at their best. Kaipaki will be back at full strength however, and will be looking to put in a performance to be proud of and a performance typical of the champion side that they are.
