The Oval has been reseeded by Stephen Hewitt 027 541 8980 who is a Parallel Rd resident and Landscaper. The Oval is looking great and we now need to hope the grass grows – the weather has been kind so far. Two local families have contacted Stephen to help them with some landscaping and is due to the work he is doing for our local community (Kaipaki Centre).
A picket fence will be erected around the oval for the start of next season and will be a feature of further developments of the oval.
We have also received support from Ohaupo Rugby Club to put in an upgraded cricket pitch on their bottom field that can be used as a second ground enabling more people to participate in cricket for Kaipaki during the forthcoming summers – we will be applying for funds shortly. This is very supportive of the Rugby Club and shows their fantastic community spirit.
The opening day for next summer will be a series of 10 over games - ladies game (being totally looked after by the men), Kaipaki under 11’s game, Kaipaki Colts game, Kaipaki Gold game, Kaipaki Green and will be a time to get squads together and knowing each other better.
There are lots happening at Kaipaki over the winter with something on most days. Events on the summer calendar for next year are three new cricket competitions (father son/daughter 8 aside being one) with the signature event on the Kaipaki calendar will be ‘Carols on the Oval’ and will be held on a Sunday leading up to Christmas. This will be the only time that locals will be asked to contribute to the Kaipaki Centre who presents virtually all the participatory opportunities for locals at no cost. Local school groups will be asked to sing carols as well as highly skilled musicians and artists performing and lots for children to do. The idea is to have a restful day in amongst the rush of Christmas where you meet and relax with friends of Kaipaki in a picnic environment and sing well known carols with food and activities available for children enhancing the family focus that Kaipaki was redeveloped with.
Look forward to reporting progress on the Pavilion on a regular basis.
